The character Newt completely ruins Aliens for me. Didnt mind the character so much on my first view, but on rewatches its an unbearable plot point. I just hate the whole take care of and protect the innocent child! trope, its just annoying. An Aliens cut without Newt in it would be fantastic.

I also just prefer horror over action for the Alien universe in general. And I think Alien has a tighter narrative over Aliens.

Alien is pretty much a perfect movie.
Aliens is almost a perfect movie, but they fucked it up when Ripley fought the Queen. The robot she was piloting was so stiff and awkward

Both films are classics, though.

Alien Isolation is the real answer...

Between the movies though, I prefer Aliens, even if both movies are amazing. It also feels like Aliens has aged better, maybe due to coming out seven years later. The greatest feeling of dread I get between the movies is when the Colonial Marines are investigating the aftermath of the massacre of the settlement. Before they encounter any of the Xenos mind you.

Just...everything is so well done in Aliens. Alien has a few things I am less clear on. Still not sure if eggmorphing in the director's cut is a good idea or not.

Are they? My understanding is they only emerge from an egg once a host is near, so without a stimulus, there shouldn't be any out and about.

Plus, their biology is basically built to use all of their energy in securing a host as quickly as possible (which plays into them only emerging when a host is near). They don't appear to be built to endure for long periods outside of that; as they don't eat, it just doesn't make sense from a metabolic perspective.

By the time Rip and the Marines arrived on the scene, there were no Xenos/Facehuggers out and about...with the closest being facehuggers found in containers. They just seemed to all be in hibernation in the reactor area. So Newt seemed to out last them. Plus, facehuggers don't just seem to be out and about most (but not all as Romulus showed) of the time...usually jumping out of the eggs onto people's faces and dying shortly after.

Aliens is an extremely good action movie.
Alien is a genre-definer - it wrote the book on sci-fi horror and established conventions that would be used for decades after.

I don't think facehuggers even consume sustenance. The egg keeps them dormant until a suitable host comes nearby. They aren't meant to exist for very long, especially once they've impregnated their unfortunate victim. It's not too unreasonable for Newt to have just hid during the initial attack and any facehugger was either spent or she didn't get near an egg.
