There's a lot of good stuff on YouTube, but you have to put in the effort to know what you want to look for.

I like the first girl's videos. She used to just mostly cover her life as an English teacher. Not annoying or hype or anything dumb like that. Just honest videos about her life. She does put on the influencer voice tho and its not like. My favorite content. But fairly inoffensive.

The rest on that list looks like garbage.

A major audience for it is kids and younger Gens. The other part of it is just lazy scrolling. It's basically replaced channel surfing on cable TV.

It's the face and the large font. It came into popularity a few years before Mr. Beast, but he basically is galvanized it for click bait content. At this point I avoid like the plague, but I imagine kids who have grown up with it presence, don't understand my annoyance with it.

Another carry-over from tv, is long form, mostly monotonous content being standard again. It used to be Youtubers would upload like 50 part vid series's; each video being 10-20mins. Now the meta is longplay's or whole vods consisting of hours of pretty uneventful gameplay.

Well, once upon a time YT didn't allow videos that were longer than 10 minutes.

But yeah, I'm hard-pressed to answer why I should waste 2+ hours of my precious life on some rando's essay or watch 5+ hours of some rando playing whatever it is they're playing.

Like sure, I have massive amounts of free time but I also have more self-respect than that.

I guess my gen did that but with Friends in the background or other mediocre sitcoms that are mildly amusing enough to be on the background while doing chores or other tasks. Can't imagine doing that with the annoying loud whiny voiced noises I hear from youtube videos that the new gen inexplicably watches.

I definitely do it with those long let's plays. I'll put on some cozy Minecraft video about building something or other and fall asleep to the noise.
