The UK has sanctioned two far-right Israeli ministers over "repeated incitements of violence against Palestinian communities" in the occupied West Bank.

Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich will both be banned from entering the UK and will have any assets in the UK frozen as part of the measures announced by the foreign secretary.

David Lammy said Finance Minister Smotrich and National Security Minister Ben-Gvir had "incited extremist violence and serious abuses of Palestinian human rights".

In response, Israel said: "It is outrageous that elected representatives and members of the government are subjected to these kind of measures."

The sanctions are part of a joint move by the UK, Norway, Australia, Canada and New Zealand announced on Tuesday.

Both Smotrich and Ben-Gvir have also been criticised for their stance on the war in Gaza. Both ministers oppose allowing aid into Gaza and have called for Palestinians there to be resettled outside the territory.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new settlement in the West Bank, Smotrich said he felt "contempt" towards the UK's move.

"Britain has already tried once to prevent us from settling the cradle of our homeland, and we cannot do it again," he said. "We are determined, God willing, to continue building."

Hopefully other countries follow suit.

I suppose this is an improvement, but it's still nowhere near good enough. Sanction all the ministers, and stop sending them F-35 parts (the UK government is currently fighting a court case to be allowed to keep supplying them).

Because they're a useful proxy for American imperialism in the Middle East.

Which doesn't mean much anymore due to the US becoming a pariah in the international community.

All the more reason why they need another country to be an even worse pariah.

I would prefer to see those bastards leave Israel, so that the international arrest warrants may be executed, and they can spend the rest of their worthless lives rotting at The Hague.

I doubt many governments have the stones for that though. More's the pity.

Which one? Only Qatar has given him a gift so far. Everyone else has told him to take a flying leap

They've simply twigged on to how to get in his favour.

Doesn't mean they're going to be dependable allies.

The US has condemned the UK, Norway, Australia and others for the sanctions. Just in case you were wondering how far America will bend over to appease Israel.

Note that four of the members of "five eyes" are in that list.

The five nations kept everything hushed up to coordinate this announcement specifically to prevent the US from being able to single any of them out for retaliation.

What I'm getting at, speaking as an Australian, is that this isn't just a sanction regarding two of the worst members of the Israeli government cabinet. This is a rather clear sign that the US's four closest allies are now working together behind the scenes and excluding the US entirely on various issues regarding geopolitical intelligence and are going around the US.

Which doesn't frankly surprise me, if the intelligence agencies hadn't already been putting distance between themselves and the US early on they certainly would have started doing so after "Signalgate" proved the upper cabinet are in direct contact with Russian assets/handlers (or are so incompetent they include them in top secret briefings by accident, frankly it's a distinction without a difference regarding how the US's allies would react behind the scenes).

But this is the first clear sign publicly available that that has indeed happened/is happening.

Interesting times to say the least.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-sanctions-israeli-ministers-1.7556968

The United States has condemned Canada and four other countries for imposing sanctions on two Israeli cabinet ministers.

Rubio says the sanctions do not advance the United States' efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the region, bring home hostages and end the war.

The statement goes on to blame Hamas for disturbing the peace of Gaza civilians and says the countries should "not forget who the real enemy is."

Yeah, no matter what happens in 2028, I find it unlikely that many foreign countries will want anything to do with America. Can't exactly blame them, though.
