I'm not asking you whether you liked the game or not.

Yeah. Don't like FPS', but I at least know that one's name.

I don't know enough about it to even know what about it is potentially iconic.

I preferred cod4 more, but yeah those two games were the pinnacle of the genre imho

Call of Duty 4 was the one that shaped modern FPS as we know it. MW2 just elevated it a few steps after that.

I'd say CoD 4 is the iconic one. MW2 may be more loved, but CoD 4 is like the blueprint for the genre now.

CoD4 is hands-down one of the most influential games of all time. I'm not really sure what MW2 did other than continue what it started. Like I know it was hugely popular, but even as far as "safe" sequels go, I don't remember anything that made it particularly special on its own other than some of the maps and weapons being standouts.

it added dual wielding and was a little more fast paced and less tactical

CoD4 was crazy when it launched. Online on PS3 didn't work (was online portion delayed?!). When it did start working and we had tons of rollbacks. But the progression was there and we were all hooked.

Campaign was impressive. Split screen. Good times.

idk I had good memories of MW2, and it was probably the last CoD I actually enjoyed so ... yeah. It had some pretty dark shit in it and the multiplayer was actually fun. But it also came out around a really specific part of my life where I could really enjoy it, too, so it's all personal significance that I'm attributing to it less so than objective meaning.

I dont know enough about the series to have an opinion. I actively avoid FPS, especially military based ones.

All I remember is COD4, Modern Warfare and Black Ops were incredibly popular, even among that series that is already popular.

when i think of iconic shooters, i think of halo, doom and goldeneye.

I know call of duty is a big name in shooters, but i've never played any of them, so i don't know why it would be iconic over any other call of duty game, or in general.

Iconic isnt a word Id use to describe it, but that isnt to minimise its influence or anything. It was clearly a very big deal at the time.

However, Id only describe a game as iconic if it had iconic components like characters, locations, etc. I cant tell you anything from any CoD game that would fit that description for me.
