If you went directly to those places rather than dicking around on a boat, you'd have more time to experience them and do things there.

Depends on the cruise. Ive enjoyed river cruises in Europe and a cruise for a few days round Ha Long Bay.

The more typical stuck on a boat for days at a time thing? Not so much.

Caribbean cruise
Also a japan one last year.

I like cruises cause you see more areas in a single vacation, without having to repack a bunch of times.

Basically cruises are for when you want a vacation but want to do minimal planning and still have a good time, or you really like using the cruise facilities like pool and spa, and buffets.

You still get to explore foreign places, but your time to do so will be pretty limited compared to a non-cruise based vacation that doesn't require you to get back to the boat on time. To that end the cruise excursions will be pretty expensive and shorter compared to planning the same thing yourself, but all the risk is taken out as all the excursions have been prevetted by the cruise company so the chances of just being scammed is almost non existent (unless you count the excursions sometimes being boring as a scam, but that can happen even if you planned it yourself).

My theory is that Judg's mom or whoever it is he lives with must control his finances or something. It can't be normal student debt because he wouldn't dance around it so much, plus people with debt and much worse jobs find a way. Having a software engineer salary for like a decade while living at home but acting like you can't afford to do anything just doesn't add up otherwise

It is definitely not any of our business if he doesn't want to share, but if you are going to mope about how you are incapable of doing anything fun or independent with your life, while outwardly appearing to have a really enviable income, naturally people are going to wonder some things.

Ironically enough, I watched the Greg giraldo stand up when he talks about the guy who shoved his wife overboard the night before we got on the ship, which just happened to be the exact same ship that incident happened on. (Carnival fantasy)

We were both from the Pittsburgh area but we were sailing out of New Orleans so it was quite the remarkable coincidence when we met the first night. Sixteen years later still goin stronger than ever

More or less what it is. You remember correctly.
I don't talk about it because there's not much to talk about. Most days I'm fairly content saving my money, some days I'm not.
If I wanted to get out I have avenues to get out. For example those stocks I mentioned are 100% in my control. Nothing really stopping me from taking $20-$30k out and walking besides the whole fact I don't want to.

I've been on one cruise. It was all right, definitely felt like it was good value for the money, decent entertainment, good food, nice environment and accommodations. I'm not someone who has an irrational fear of being on water, or gets sea sick, or anything like that. That being said, this was 6 years ago, and I'm not really itching to go again immediately. Though I would if the circumstances were right.

Anyway to be on topic, I was more into the idea of a cruise when I was younger, now they just seem to me like something for suburban rich people. I know that isn't the only crowd but still. There's also something kind of weird about a big floating resort but I can't deny that some of the stuff they have on them looks fun. I just don't know how fun it would be vs. going out and about on land. I'm not a big planner so I like the idea of activities being ready for me, but not so much the idea that those activities will be in a closed off setting with the same pool of people available to participate. The people probably make or break it cause you're stuck with them for a while.

Dude, cruise ships are so big, you seldom even see the same people, unless you purposeful make connections. There's literally thousands of people on board. I don't remember seeing the same person twice anywhere, in the 7 days I was there.

I mean, something overlooked, you sometimes go somewhere you wouldnt normally go when vacationing somewhere.

I wouldnt have done Tokushima, Okinawa, or Ishigaki on a Japan trip without a cruise.
I might have done Okinawa, but the other two, I would have over looked.

While I'm not saying cruises are for everyone, and if you need regular access to park sized open (and the deck of the ship doesn't cut it for you) spaces to feel happy, obviously not, it's not like you're trapped in isolation on a life boat for weeks, cruise ships, size depending, are like small towns. And you don't have to choose a trip on a boat that's a month long if you don't want that, there are many that are a week or less.

Now, if you need regular internet access to be happy, which is a good portion of people these days, there is a good chance the ship will be charging quite a bit extra for that.
