I hated how SA condensed songs and had DJ chatter over them so sure

after playing through all the updates, I prefer GTAV's.

Nah. It's good for sure, but I enjoyed the radio in both SA and VCS more.

For context, the majority of songs on all three were new to me when I played them, and those ones had a lot more songs that made it onto my real-world playlists.

It is by far my favorite GTA soundtrack for sure. I REALLY hope GTA VI has a classic Vice City channel and relicenses some of the stuff from the first game. And for the love of god bring back Fernando from Emotion 98.3

So many of those channels like every song was great.

I will put Vice City at #1 but if I was going to put another game against it, for my tastes have you looked at the Mafia II soundtrack? It is fucking loaded. I get it though, not a lot of the younger people on this board has the same love for 50's and 60's music like I do. Damn it is such a good soundtrack though.

It's a good one, but the best licensed OST is Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure.

It's up there. It did as much for recognition of classic rock/pop as Guitar Hero did.

When I loaded up Vice City and I heard Broken Wings I was completely fucking blown away.
Only got better from there.

50% of it is great, not so sure about the other half.

Meanwhile, San Andreas soundtrack is 100% solid

Mafia 3's licensed OST is by far the best.

A lot (not all) of GTA3's music was also specifically made for GTA3, I believe. A lot of the rest was kinda obscure, aside from one particular movie's soundtrack. Whereas all later GTAs had like, actual real world songs (except maybe LCS? I don't even remember what the radio was like on it) that there's a good chance you'd actually know at least some of.

For as good as Vice City and San Andreas were soundtrack-wise, I gotta go with GTA IV & its DLCs as my favorite OST of the series.

depending on your taste in music many games have vastly superior licensed soundtracks than Vice City

Roadkill, DT Racer, most wipEout games, RollCage, Extreme-G 3 and XGRA, Saints Row The Third, Driver Parallel Lines and Driver 76 are some that instantly come to mind that make Vice City sound awful by comparison

Never heard of it? Not surprised. Basically super glitchy store brand Tony Hawk. I got it because I couldn't wait for the next TH game. And I mean, it had its own flavor to it that was, you know, ok, even if it was inferior in broad strokes.

But the soundtrack?

There was a Road Rash game on PS1 that had some awesome shit too, like Temptation by the Tea Party

For LCS we all spent hours embedding mp3s to make our own radio! Fun times. Still stickied on the board over there. It's my oldest active post and one of the first stickies I remember.
