Standard NBA rules and time format. However, free throws are allowed but take off 5% of your reward. The game ends when you reach 20, or time runs out

I don't think anybody here would get 20 points against any NBA team let alone against the 5 best NBA players in their prime.

I mean I'm not delusional enough to think I'm taking an NBA player to the basket and posterizing him but lets be real. In the modern NBA where they let teams shoot like 90 three pointers and just let people shoot from deep all the time I can tell you that yeah as someone who played high school basketball and grew up playing it my whole life and was a decent shooter if you are literally going to let me shoot every single possession yeah I feel like over the course of an ENTIRE game I can knock down 7 shots.

I'm 6'2" and have a quick release. Not tall by NBA standards but plenty of guards get their shots off at that height. Again I'm going on the assumption that modern NBA just lets people bomb from deep all the time. This isn't the 80's or 90's where they are up in your grill, hand checking you and playing lock down defense. It's basically a shoot around practice these days in many of these games.

In no way could I stop any of them from scoring and I couldn't drive the lane, but could I chuck up a bunch of shots from deep and make 7 over the course of an entire game? I think I could.

I'm 5'10" and was not very good at basketball even when I was significantly younger, healthier and practicing regularly. Realistically, it would be a shutout.

Beyond me knowing little about the game and having shit strength, speed, and stamina, I'm further handicapped by a severe height/reach disadvantage. We might not score at all.

There might have been some bad players in the early NBA. You might have a chance against them, especially because they played in a different rule set compared to today and they may have trouble adjusting to modern rules.

Still, no one posting here is realistically going to have a chance against the best 5 NBA players ever, let alone most NBA players throughout history.

I'm guessing there are players on these one season teams that are way worse than almost every other NBA player. I probably would still lose to them but I wouldn't be shocked if someone on this board could win the 20 point challenge against them.

I have been able to play pick-up with a total of four NBA players before and after their time in the league; basketball is really big where I grew up. I went to HS with a former first round draft pick in the same class as me who had a really good NBA career and we were friends. Not close, but we hung out on occasion and played basketball together a few times.

He always took it easy, as did the other NBA guys I rarely played with. Even then, he was clearly better than 10 of us amateurs combined. But one time our team pissed him off by hitting a few lucky shots. I will never forget it-he started dunking and hitting shots from everywhere. He blocked a shot of mine, and I still dont know where he came from to this day. One minute I was all alone, the next he had blocked one of my shots so hard it flew into next week.

No average joe is hanging with any of these guys. Trust me.

If all the other players have torn ACLs and I have access to a ladder then yes, probably.

It's not about hanging with, or competing on any level. They would score every single time. I'm not going to dispute that. They could win by 500 points or more if they wanted. I'm not disputing that. In fact in this scenario you are better off not even defending as they will score within seconds and you just get the ball right back. All you want is offensive possessions in this scenario. It isn't about winning. it is about scoring 20 points. All I'm saying is if they weren't purposefully motivated to shut you down to make an example and if they played like a modern NBA game where they basically let someone shoot a long range 3 over and over while they sag in the lane and stand around daring you to shoot and if you are the only guy on your team taking all of the shots and you are a somewhat competent shooter I legitimately don't think it is crazy to think you could sink 7 shots when they are letting you jack it up from 3 over and over and over and over again.

That's all. I'm not delusional to the point I think I'm competing at pro sports. But this is basically a "do you think you could make 7 three pointers if someone let you shoot like 100 of them?" and my answer to that is yes.

But to me that is part of the debate. If they are dead set on being ALL over me no I'm not going to be able to do anything. But in the context of this just being an NBA game and assuming they are treating it like any other game the fact is these days they often just stand back and let people jack up shots like it is a shoot around. When Boston shoots 90 three pointers and they aren't hitting but 25% of them the defense just sags and lets them bomb away because they have a comfortable lead.

So in a perfectly regular scenario like that within the context of a normal modern game I was simply saying I don't think it is crazy to say I feel like I could actually score 20 (hit 7 three's) if I'm the only guy taking shots every single time. I thought it was a valid scenario to discuss.

It was just a fun way of participating and pushing back on the idea that no one would have a chance. It really depends on context. I agree with you if they were aware of what the situation was and they wanted to make an example of the person trying and they were motivated and playing lock down defense then no I'm not going to succeed.

I just liked viewing the scenario from a different point of view. It was never about thinking I could compete evenly with them. Hell no haha.

Can you make 7 3 pointers if they let you shoot is a completely different question. Your odds of doing that are the same if you're playing against 5 pros, 5 amateurs, another 5 of yourself, 5 Abrahamic gods, or 5 Spanish mackerels.

I doubt that I could score even a single point against NBA players. I probably wouldn't even be able to get the ball down the court to take a shot. I haven't played basketball since I was highschool. I wasn't any good back then. They wouldn't even let me get a shot off.
