Is it bad that my first thought after hearing blinded by light was wrapped up like a deuce?

actually yeah XIV, while kind of cheating by having multiple "standard" themes, it did have one that stood out to me. i'll have to try to remember the title.

nm i guess it was a boss theme. called "A Fine Death"

The actual line is revved up like a deuce

I guess the 'standard' battle themes for XIV would be the ones that play when fighting regular enemies in the field, which changes each expansion. Shadowbringers probably has my favourite of those (Rencounter).

Several of them are terrific - top ten regular battle themes in the series material - but yeah, Shadowbringers' is the best. It's rivaled in excellence only by FFXIII's.

saber's edge is so underrated

Saber's Edge has that one part that totally slaps. It just needed to be longer because the rest of the song is just okay.

i think Saber's edge is great from the beginning and only gets better as it goes.

What boss fights do you visualize when you play a boss theme in your head?

FFVI - The boss you fight as Sabin where you're falling down the waterfall
FFVII - Air Buster
FFVIII - Elnoyle
FFIX - Hilgigars for some reason
FFX - Sin Fin
FFXIII - The boss at the end of chapter 7 for some reason
FFXVI - Odin

I'd have to listen to the others to get a better image in my mind

I'll have to give it some thought, but definitely Air Buster for FFVII. Iconic.

Hm, I can't say I really picture any boss. I picture the playable characters, though.

FFIV - Baigan
FFV - Garuda
FFVI - Vargas + Ipooh
FFVII - Rufus Shinra
FFX - Sin Fin

Don't have any associations in the other games.

IV - Edward (counts trust me)
V - Garuda
VI - Phantom Train or whelk
VII - Reno (Got stuck here for a good while less so because of the pyramids more because my disk wouldnt load properly)
VIII - Ifrit in the cave
IX - Black Mage Waltz
X - probably sin fin
XII - Cool fire horse beginning
XVI - Maybe Odin fight idk

Actually VI could be first Ultros too lots of good choices
