And yeah thats the elevator to the right that takes you up the chapel right? I just did that anyway to get to the upper chapel but I did it earlier to fall down to the bottom and thats where I found my first fire gem

Yeah I attacked her by accident at the start and had to kill her by making her fall off a cliff. It took me like 2 hours lol

This is actually pretty common.

I haven't really used any weapons besides the fire saw spear though. I just made an axe so I could put an arcane gem on it that I got from the blue looking alien dudes. I have the ludwigs blade but I haven't used it at all. I'd have to farm to get more twin blood stones to upgrade it enough to put a thunder gem on it, I only have one that I've found and it's one of the ones that needs a tier 3 gem slot.

Well even killing her should have gotten you her badge to buy her weapon. That actually does have Arcane damage and scaling. It's very good too if you're okay with R1 spamming.

Regardless it'd be a good idea to progress further, since it's easier to find upgrade materials in the late game. But honestly you could just stick with the Saw Spear if you don't feel the need to experiment with anything else, it can easily carry you all the way to the end.

Im pretty sure the Arcane on Blades of Mercy is miniscule.

I'm guessing the celestial emissary was supposed to just be some like lore or flavor fight right? The hell was that? It was ridiculously easy and then you get some +4 potion rune which is nice but the area just ends after that unless I'm missing something

Nevermind I found out you can break the window to continue. The boss at the end of that area was definitely a step up from the one before in that it was an actual boss that could hurt you but it still was pretty easy. Maybe I should stop using the summons, I always did in elden ring and I'm not usually a 'challenge gamer' but the summon taking her aggro plus the fire saw letting me get in melted her pretty quick. Also there was a new weapon in the room before called a call beyond that did crazy damage to her (like 1k per hit) which made it pretty easy to burst her down, though it does use 7 bullets so I only got 3 uses of it before I ran out (with the +5 from blood bullets). Is there any way to increase blood bullet cap with like a rune or anything?

There is. Also you can exchange health for bullets.

You can increase your max quicksilver bullets with a rune, not blood bullets. It will always be +5.

I really want to like Ebrietas but I just don't. At least I think her charge isn't a double-tap one-shot if you try to dodge anymore.

Speaking of, has anyone explained counter damage yet? It's actually the real beef I have with this game.

Well when I say challenge gamer I mean that I don't do like the no sphere grid kinds of challenges or what have you. If the game gives it to me I'll probably use it. But I do like playing games on the hardest difficulty most of the time

Kingdom hearts 3 was the only game I've played in recent memory that was so easy I stopped using the triangle reactions partway through and then just quit playing entirely because I couldn't handle the boredom anymore

This basically already makes you a challenge gamer. I held a poll here one time and like 80% of the voters said they always play on normal mode, and easy mode had more votes than hard mode.

That is surprising. I would've figured gamers would like hard modes more often than not

yeahhh its too bad because the dlc is really good boss fights but you have to slog through so much to get there

I looked up an arcanist guide and it said to use the logarius wheel so I spent like 3 hours grinding levels so I could get 20 strength and 12 skill to use it and it is not what I expected. I expected some fast multi hit thing not a giant club lol. But it's cool and strong and apparently a better arcanist weapon than the hunters axe so goodbye axe

I can see why arcanist isn't good for beginners because I have 3 weapons now and no clear idea when to use which one. Ive been defaulting to the saw spear and if they seem like they resist fire I just switch to another one and that seems to work pretty well

I never used it in earnest, but Logarius Wheel felt very odd to me when I tried out the moveset. And I used Kirkhammer my first playthrough so it's not like slow and heavy is a deal breaker.

Yeah arcane and bloodtinge both feel like stats that are best used once you've already played the game once and have a firm handle on what's in the game and how you can make use of those stats. Also adding my voice to the earlier support for picking up the DLC - the jump in quality is absolutely bonkers and it contains pound for pound some of the best stuff the genre has ever seen.

The dlc for souls games is always a must play

but its $20 :( the game itself was only $10

Old Hunters is at least twice as good as Bloodborne so that checks out!

Well, unfortunately you have a small problem.

One of the flaws of Bloodborne is it did absolutely none of the legitimately good QoL changes DS2 made. This includes the fact that it takes you straight into NG+ after beating it. Therefore, I strongly advise making a backup save before the final boss if you really end up not getting the DLC.

This is also good if you give a shit about Trophies because there are actually multiple endings and no other "need" to do another playthrough besides that fact.

Edit: Oh, it'll probably be apparent who the final boss is when you get there, but to be safe eventually you'll notice a pretty obvious change in the Hunter's Dream. That would be the time. Don't even approach them before making up your mind.

Ok I've been kind of sleep deprived recently and have only gotten like 4 hours of sleep in 2 days which is concerning for other reasons but I was trying to play some bloodborne today and I kept hearing a baby crying like very faintly and I kept thinking it was my son and it wasn't and I thought I was dead ass starting to hallucinate so I tried to force myself to sleep and it didn't work for like 40 minutes so I just got up and turned off the TV and then the crying stop so I'm like what the fuck and then I Google it and apparently they have a fucking baby crying in the background when you get 99 insight and this game is actually evil I'm going to kill myself

There's an easy solution to that, buy some stuff at the insight vendor in Hunter's Dream. You can get a bunch of outfits or some upgrade materials. Chunks cost 20 so you could just get a few of those.

Considering how often you accumulate insight it isn't beneficial to hold onto the max amount.

Yeah, you're capped at 99 Insight so it's good to spend for that reason.

I definitely forgot that, though.

I never realized insight did stuff like that. I just saw it as a random resource and spent it as soon as possible.

One of my favorite bits about Insight is that you need at least 1 Insight to be able to perceive the Doll as a living being. If you somehow go all the way back down to 0 Insight, she'll be inanimate again and you won't be able to talk to her. (Though I believe you can still level up in this case so long as you've "activated" her previously during the run)

Oh yeah, also "killing" her still let's you level and it's faster so if you ever watch the speedrun they just merc her constantly.

It'll also do that at certain areas of the game after a certain checkpoint is reached, regardless of insight

Killing the doll makes you a bad person regardless of circumstance

Also I finally got another 4 hours of sleep so that's nice

I don't have chunks in my shop, is there some milestone you have to reach? I just beat the nightmare frontier about to go tackle the unseen prison that I've been putting off because there's some part where you have to run down some stairs and a giant alien is shooting lasers at you and there's a million enemies and it was pissing me off before. But I don't think I have anything left to do besides that unless I want to grind chalice dungeons which I don't really feel like doing

I think literally your next (mandatory) boss is the milestone.

But also this is a different vendor by the side entrance of the house in case you're only checking the other more obvious one.

Yeah that wasn't it. You could have actually fought that a long time ago, though it's more balanced for now.

Yeah Paarl is an optional boss, you could have fought him much earlier when you first got kidnapped to Hypogean Gaol. Though it's much easier to save for later game when you can walk all over him.

The next mandatory boss is at the end of Nightmare of Mensis.

Be prepared for more crying babies.

I haven't reached there yet but I'm guessing that comes out of the unseen village? I ended up actually grinding more chalices because the thought of doing that staircase again fills me with dread and holy shit the ailing loran chalice just showers you with souls. I got like 5 levels from just the first layer

Now you understand why the past generations of hunters all wanted to reach the deepest parts of the catacombs (depth 5)

I just hit level 100. Is there a point to grinding out 99 arcane? It seems like the only thing that increases my weapon attack is better fire gems at this point
