It's been announced in the latest issue of Famitsu Magazine that PlatinumGames designer Takahisa Taura is parting ways with the developer in order to start work on his own company, Eel Game Studio.

As revealed in a post by Genki, and spotted by the folks over at VGC, Taura stated on a few social media sites that he hasn't got anything he wishes to share with regards to his new venture just yet, but really it's the fact of another big name leaving Platinum that's the real concern for fans of the studio.

Yeah. Terrible management to blame again and the devs are the ones to suffer while the managers will be rewarded.

It's the only one worth playing, don't worry. And it's only worth playing for the story.

Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta series, Transformers Devestation, Astral Chain. All fantastic and very much worth playing. That's just off the top of my head.

God pls I hope Astral Chain comes back, even if it takes Nintendo completely taking over since they partially own it anyways

It's actually my favorite game to come out of Platinum recently. I occasionally replay it and think about just how much good the game does. Some of the weird ass side quests, the sheer scope of the world and its lore, all without being too overbearing I think, because it feels like every other Platinum game tries too hard to recreate the Bayo1 magic

Nintendo actually bought the full rights to the IP.

In exchange, Nintendo gave up their rights to The Wonderful 101 to PlatinumGames.

EDIT: Actually, looks like Nintendo owning Astral Chain is a rumor and hasn't been confirmed one way for the other.

Ah. That happened a couple of years before the Wonderful 101 switchover, so I missed it. (The article I read about the TW101 change said that the Astral Chain thing was unconfirmed.)

I'm sad because they made good games before the current leadership decided to chase the live service game pipe dream

Everybody should play Metal Gear Rising and Wonderful 101 and Astral Chain.

I'm still mad about Tango and some of their talent. Call me crazy but I think all the money Microsoft spent on Bethesda and the nightmare scenario of Starfield and Fallout 76 and how much money those things cost to make killed Tango and Arkane. Microsoft's attempt at having an exclusive Platinum game, demanding a BIG AAA game and then cancelling it really fucked up Platinum too.

Astral Chain is criminally underrated. I wish it got a wider release or even a sequel down the road.

Nintendo got the IP from PlatinumGames, so they definitely believe that it has a future. From what I know, it sold pretty well, too.
