What triggers me most about Mario Kart being a let down is we're stuck with it now for probably 7+ years.

I mean it could end up like Brawl and Melee where people largely stick to 8D if we really still hate this one after a year or so.

Mario Kart is clearly a good base but it needs more complicated tracks from expansion for sure.

The tracks are in general just a lot of left and right turns with little danger.

I dont think I am ever not having fun while playing but it is clearly an inferior experience to 8.

The mechanics in this game are really wack sometimes.

Footstool someone whilst going off a ramp and now your momentum is completely changed and random and you are getting sucked into the abyss.

I don't think it would have mattered lol, I think I had too much right suction. I only had enough time for that one trick, and by the time I did that trick, I was still in the middle of the track, thinking I was fine!

It was never going to beat 8D because 8D is Mario Kart perfected.

World will set the expectations lower so that Mario Kart 10 delivers.

The more I see of this game the more I'm starting to think it might just absolutely god stomp MK8 mechanically. It's giving off big Sonic All Stars Transformed-esque impressions which is A+ since that is by far the most skill-based and deep kart racer to date when it comes to boosting shenanigans.

I'm really annoyed about the SD Express card I ordered like a month ago that still hasn't arrived and the current estimate is just "by June 23rd"

There are other cards in stock on Amazon, but they're like 20 bucks more for the same amount of storage

I'm going to assume storage prices eventually come down and am just going to be conservative with my space for a bit.

Can't speak for them, but my Switch 1 card was a 1TB one that was nearly full. I couldn't even come close to transferring everything over during the setup, and had to cancel most redownloads.

Yeah I had a 512GB card on my Switch so Im at capacity already, and thats even after culling a lot of stuff Im unlikely to play again or for a long time

How many games are you likely to play in the near future?

Well there are a number of things I'm interested at looking at again to see how much better they run on Switch 2, otherwise the list would be smaller for sure

Internal storage wins at 16.6s. Then Sandisk MicroSD at 19.18, Samsung at 19.41, and Lexar at 19.78. Finally game card at 24.75, just a hair shy of 50% longer than internal storage.

I have played some F-Zero GX now with the new Gamecube controller. Now it feels correct

with normal Switch 2 controller you gotta do a claw formation to accelerate and boost at the same time

but now the Y button is above the A button where it belongs

But what about using the SL or SR buttons to boost?

Gamecube controller + FZero GX and SC2 make this console worth it. The rest is a bonus.

I wish the final leg of Knockout Tour was a full 3 laps, they end so abruptly.

Knockout tours are already pretty long but it would be cool if they did 3 laps and it went top 4 - top 3 - top 2.

last nights stream finished Grand Prix 3*s pretty easily outside of Leaf Cup where Boo kept being fucking cracked

then continued to Knockout Tours, which again most of them I've 3*d no problem. I've done the first 4 and the latter 3 were 3*d without issue.... the first one though, Golden Rally, has been a big big bitch

and like it's very oddly consistent, like if I start the same way I typically get a triple mushroom then a star in my first two item boxes. I've also gotten blue shelled RIGHT before the first get a couple times, driving me mad

150cc 3*s has been kind of infuriating for me.

It's gotten to the point where I'm always actively paying attention and slowing down to second near the end stretches so I don't get blasted by a blue shell. The amount of times I lost on the last few seconds has been infuriating.

Also it seems like all the good music is hidden away in free roam.

Heard a lot great remixes' including one to Mario 64 credits.

I'm guessing there's like, at least an alternate title screen? I think I'll keep having fun with online in that case and maybe play one cup a day single player in the meantime

Mario Kart - these damn Blue Shells only go for me. If I'm in 2nd or 3rd the whole race, the first one comes up seconds after I finally get into 1st. If I'm leading for most of the race, they show up like once per lap.

Just did a MKW mission in free roam where I played as a UFO, sucking up cows and blue coins. So cool!

Mirror Mode unlocked time to do it all again

The handling of costumes in the character selection screen frustrates me.

yeah those are the worst. I mainly play knockout tour, so there are some enemies I'm pretty much not able to get

The drop down menus in MK8 were really neat. Either way, having them completely randomly placed in between unique charcaters is a baffling decision.

You can't sort them by character which is how I have it now that I have all that unlocked.

But yeah I figured before that it was all just listed in the order you unlock everything

Yea you can organize them better by character, dunno why that isn't the default option but it is there

Although I do also wish that they kept the drop down for alternate costumes, would make the selection screen way less cluttered

It's not unlock order for me.

And yeah you can sort by character but it's not an improvement imo, it's just a different issue, like, more than a page is just the first two. Probably not default because they wanted the 24 non-NPC drivers take the first two pages.

The costume unlocking system is dumb and the Kamek ones are worse. Game developers should understand that unlocks happening randomly over a long time is annoying if you want to do it deliberately.

Is that why Im not unlocking any more characters? The rest need to be unlocked through Kamek?

If it's a piranha plant shadow at the end of the character select screen yes

At least I assume it's a piranha plant because I already have pirahna plant unlocked and still showing that and I know of at least 2 more enemies I still need

I've rarely bought consoles when they're new. One thing I underestimated was how difficult it would be to get accessories. I have some travel in a couple days and not sure if I'll be able to find a case in any stores that's big enough to hold the Switch 2 in before I leave. I looked around and the best thing I have is this old thing I used to carry around my original Game Boy in. So, I may be taking that.

I seem to be getting hit by Blue Shells inches from the finish line WAY more often in this one than in previous Mario Kart games, while playing GP at least.

It's finally time to break in my new console with a game that will truly push the system to it's limits.

I can finally say I'm satisfied and that I've finished Mario Kart World

Nintendo just dropped a nuke on the Mario Kart World online play. Patched is so random now rarely picks a traditional 3 lap track. Guess they weren't happy people wanted to play Mario Kart how it's been since the start.
