It's genuinely a chore to play

There is no tension, no horror, just clunky gameplay in indentical pitch black environments

Didn't think Callisto Protocol was amazing either but it at least it wasn't boring

This one's a dud

Its a high quality remake. However, just like the original, its got a couple of sections that I dont like. I always preferred the second game. Not that the first is bad, mind you.

It's crazy because I feel the entire opposite. Dead Space Remake for me was very fun and I never got bored. It was also tense for me too.

Isn't that most horror games, from what I hear they are the most scary early on and then over time that fades fast.

There might be a handful of exceptions, but yeah that's most of them from what most think.

The remake is fantastic man, you're just objectively incorrect here. You can dislike it but "no tension, no horror, just clunky gameplay in indentical pitch black environments" is all objectively wrong.

Also saying Callisto Protocol was better is an absolute joke, and I liked parts of that game.

It's like the original with better visuals and lighting, and the ship is now one contiguous entity, so instead of getting on a tram at the end of each chapter and going through a loading screen to the next one, you just walk there via the innards of the ship and the tram is now for fast travel.

Isaac also talks now and instead of Kendra and Hammond suggesting he go and fix things even though he's the engineer and he should know what to do, he takes the initiative and generally feels like a much more realized character and person.

I didn't need to play the OG Resident Evil 2 to think Resi 2 Remake was a good game
I didn't need to play the OG Silent Hill 2 to think SH2 Remake was a good game

The frame of reference should be the current games on the market

I'm hearing a lot of about how faithful this is to the original. Great. But I'm holding it to the same standard as a game released today and when it comes to gameplay, pacing, level design, enemy AI, etc it definitely feels like it's from 2008

I played the original and didn't think the remake needed to be made tbqh. It was already a good game, this one takes it and just tweaks a few sections to not be ass and made Isaac talk.

It often went out of its way in attempt to misleading you on when and where those jump scares were coming though. Like you'd hear spooky shit, then sometimes something would pop up yo kill you immediately, sometimes it would be from an unexpected location, sometimes it would be exactly where you would expect, or sometimes nothing would happen. It even had some instances of clearly finishing off everything, then just one more pop up.

Don't pretend it's like DS3 where everything was obvious the second youd run into an arena room. The first one definitely put in the effort

i watched my husband play through the whole thing. it definitely looks padded out. and isaac became very generic in his redesign and personality. im not a big fan of isaac to begin with, but a silent protag, while lacking in personality, is a lot better than a protag lacking in personality *explicitly for lack of trying*

i did see some improvements for sure but overall im glad i skipped. husband said he wont be replaying it

Haaaard disagree. An actual personality and actually being the engineer instead of just a silent idiot errand boy is far, far superior.

It's not at all padded out either - it's remarkably in line with the first with the only "padding" being moving between chapters manually instead of via tram loading screen, which again, is superior, because it makes the ship feel like an actual place.
