Even after all the fixes, they're still pretty ass

Rockstar switched development to another team for post-launch support and they've gotten a lot better with updates. Ironically the Netflix ports are the best ones.

It looks like they improved it a lot since its botched release. I *really* hated how they ripped out the spirit of each game through its visual aesthetic but they have a classic filter that improves upon that.

Rockstar should have gotten in trouble for not telling people what versions of the games were being remastered, they intentionally left that part out.

There's no reason they couldn't have released remasters of the PS2 versions of the games, nobody asked for ports of the mobile versions of the games.

As if that's not bad enough, the 360 version of the game which is the OG Xbox version is automatically made the shit mobile port as soon as you put it in. Whether or not it does it even if you're offline is unknown.

maybe its worth playing if you never played the games before but if you can manage to get the original ps2 games then youll probably enjoy those a lot more.

like definitive ports do improve some aspects of the original games, probably in some ways making them more playable due to their modern gameplay changes but even without those improvements the games arent that hard to get into.

so it just comes down to what you want to experience.
the original game with minimal alterations or definitive version that has improved visuals/gameplay but some cut content due to licensing issues?

I figured as much. If Rockstar would have left the OG Xbox/360 port alone and let people who own the disc play that version most people wouldn't be mad. I was going to track down a copy of it but after doing some research, I found out that it would be updated to be the "definitive" version

I played 3 and Vice City on it and I think they both fare well. Definitely different vibes from the OG, especially 3, but I never found it felt incongruent or anything. And I don't remember running into any bugs at all post patches.

I did try San Andreas before the patches and it was barely playable.

They've been updated and are pretty great. The PS5 version of SA runs at 60FPS which is fun to play. All of them are in a much better place. I think people just don't like the old school graphics all remastered cause woof the old CRTs and bad resolution did a lot of work.

EDIT: It being a mobile port means absolutely nothing lol. They, now, look good (and have classic lighting to replicate the classic feel) and add stuff like free aim + movement to 3 and VC. Otherwise they are more or less the same. What does its origin as a mobile game have to do with...anything?

I only played SA but I thought it was fine. Didn't experience any of the weird bugs people talked about, and the improved controls alone make it a better experience than the PS2 original. I can only imagine it's even moreso with 3 and VC as the original controls on those were garbage

The character models in the whole trilogy always looked really bad

They're fine. It's nice to have modern controls and QOL perks. The graphical upgrade is nice too. Some of the character models are wonky, but it's mostly because they already were and they look worse in a remastered form.

I never had nearly as many issues as others did at the start, but I could have just been lucky. They've been patched anyways.

I've been recently replaying them. Got done with VC a few weeks ago and am currently going through 3. Haven't had any issues

Could they've been done better? Yes. Should they've been done better? Most definitely. Still, they aren't the horrendous mess that many make them out to be.

I can say for absolute sure that I never saw any of that during my playthrough, and I played it during the brief period after release when SA was on Game Pass. I remember seeing the screenshots going around (strangely, it always seemed to be the exact same screenshots) but never saw it in my game.

And the character models were always shit. They are just now in HD shit and appear as such. So, yeah, the definitive edition makes playing the games better and doesn't look that bad these days so TC yeah they are still good.

No but they all do this weird thing where the entire body deforms from basic movements such as walking or bending over. It looked weird even when those games were new

I played all of them to 100% when they first released. There was some minor bullshit throughout, but overall I had fun and thought the games themselves held up fine.

If you are just itching for that classic GTA fix, they are perfectly fine ways of playing them. Are they the hands down best way of playing them? No. But they're good enough, at least in my opinion.

It is an unnecessary change, and extremely miniscule in the grand scheme of the game. Utterly miniscule. I guess that's why I didn't notice: it means absolutely nothing for the game. Why is this the biggest thing aside from jank character models (which I still think were jank in the OG, but now they are in HD and look worse because they weren't good in the first place) for you? Are there any other things that make it worse? I am legitimately curious because this seems much ado about nothing.

The characters in the original version of San Andreas didn't look nearly as bad.

The draw distance was and apparently is still hot garbage, some objects that should move are still static, some objects still float in mid air.

Funny how most of you defending this trash skip right past the customers/fans being intentionally mislead by Rockstar.

I'm not the only one who has an issue with the "definitive editions" of the the trilogy.

Has somethings been improved from 3 years ago? Yes like rain, the lighting, clouds actually being a thing and the model of Ryder seems to be better but there's still issues with all 3 games. Some character models look down right horrible compared to the original games.
These versions of the trilogy was and still is a cheap cash grab by Rockstar.

You can tell some of the work was done by Ai, Vice City was the most affected because some store signs were completely messed up.

I wanted to like San Andreas because I grew up playing the original version and like 5 years ago I played the 360 version and still enjoyed it but i was absolutely disappointed with the "definitive edition" because it was bad 3 years ago and still has issues even now.
