Sightseeing, doing an activity not in your local area (not just stuff like concerts or conventions, stuff like hiking or biking or even river rafting, etc.), visiting friends/relatives. There's lots of reasons to go on vacation that doesn't involve 'doing nothing'

I'm not the poster you're responding to, but I hate food delivery apps for these reasons:
- it can cost more than the entire order itself
- you need to tip on top of that already huge cost
- the food exchanges hands with someone who doesn't work at the restaurant and has no real incentive to deliver the food fast and still warm
- countless horror stories about food app transactions

At the place I order Chinese from, the delivery is free with a minimum order amount.
When I order pizza, the delivery fee is like $3. Huge difference between this and food delivery apps.

Smoking in particular, seems like a very expensive habit to develop for no benefit. Drinking can at least ease nerves and I suppose if you're inclined can get you drunk. Smoking is what, just to pass the time? It basically amounts to fidgeting? Just doing something to occupy you for a few moments.

Id also say sports cards too. These serve no real utility other than looking at. At least buying toys someone could theoretically play with if you chose to. Pokmon/MTG/Lorcana cards and other card game types of formats though have playability given they are technically games, even if a large demographic only use it to collect for $.

I think trading/collectable cards are kind of cool tbh. I actually have a set from when I was a kid, but they're not sports related. They're these:

Worth about $35, which is kinda cool, lol. I don't really even remember where I got them. I guess I went to some kind of museum and found them at the gift shop and got my dad to buy them for probably like $2 in like '94 or so, lol.

Anyway, yeah, I can definitely agree that some of the rarer ones that cost absurd amounts are ridiculous.

That's just traveling. Vacation is for relaxing and escape.

But travelling can be for relaxing and escape. Im not sure why youre making a distinction here as it doesnt really make sense.

I interpreted this as the sort of vacation where you travel to somewhere else to just sit there and do nothing the whole time. since you can pretty easily just do nothing from the comfort of your own home as well

yes, this is the exact kind of vacation Im talking about. The kind where you just sit in the resort in Mexico the whole time and doing nothing but the resort stuff there.

I'd love that kind of vacation honestly. I've never cared much for the touristy sightseeing stuff. I'd rather relax in the fancy resort or go to a theme park. My most desired vacation spots are all beaches or cities with major theme parks lol.

Sure you can just as easily "do nothing" at home, but sometimes a change of scenery helps with relaxing too. My friend does that sometimes. Just goes to a hotel or airbnb out of town for a few days just to get away from it all. Nothing crazy like an expensive 5 star hotel.

Cars. Who the hell is spending 40k+ on a car. And why. You don't get that money back at the end.

cars I definitely understand because if you are a car enthusiast, some of the differences between driving an expensive luxury car and driving a cheap bare-bones car are night and day

40k on top of like 8-10% APR on a car or truck is crazy though. That's a house down payment. It's so crazy to me. I never used to spend more than 10k on a car because i could never justify it, even if I could afford it.
