I beat dare mode earlier, felt like I had some pretty easy dares. I could actually have won on day 3 but needed to wait for them to all reveal and didn't get another chance until day 8-9. If you fail the dare does it actually wipe your whole save? I was not brave enough to find out

curse mode on the other hand seems like the worst thing ever

Mine are

  1. must buy exactly 1 item from each shop draft
  2. must not enter a room more than 3 times (entrance seems to be a bit more lenient?)
  3. must draft lavatory and stay in it for 30 seconds every day. It's also pitch black and plays a forboding tone for that entire 30 seconds. If I don't draft lavatory, I lose
  4. must not eat fruits (even ones you buy or get from a spread bonus in the dining room...)
Honestly, it's pretty fucking hard to play around all 4 rules at once.

... So uh... it turns out if my fucking lavatory is sheltered, it doesn't count as me having fulfilled the dare. Are you shitting on me? I did so much that run. I'm livid

mine were

1.open all locked trunks every day
2.never drop below 20 steps
3.draft 6 colours of rooms per day
4.never enter the pool

#2 pretty much makes it nearly impossible to do this promptly, because imagine: 4 way hallways that you can only visit thrice, GOING BACK TO THE FOUNDATION after a simple stroll to the end while also trying to grab one of many levers along the way

Also if I'm not trying to beat the game, I gotta go into the fucking lavatory, let alone draft it (2* rarity), but because it's a useless room that blocks off a pathway, I need to make a bad decision along the way. The shop one isn't that bad though because I don't actually have to draft a single one thankfully, but it makes all Aquariums an auto game over as I've said

That's why I've been taking it slow and unlocking things as much as possible to give myself as much advantage along the way. I need to be able to ride the boat I think?

For you, I can mostly see #3 being pretty bad

Reached Room 46 on Day 16. Would have been Day 14, but I didn't have enough steps and Day 15 was a bust. Loving the game so far. Still have plenty left to do or discover. Plenty of theories about some things and some puzzles. Still working through other puzzles that I've started but not finished.

Ok made a list of the things I know I need to do after reaching the credits and my musings on what not looking for any spoilers though

Chessboard - figure each room has a designated piece and I just need to draft rooms that work for every piece. Havent found one that works for the King yet

Tomb - figure I need to light the candles and make note of the statues arm positions. I havent started this and really dont want to just get so avoiding this

Resovoir - have drained it completely and have the two entrances to it. I opened one box that had a Sanctum key but think that was pure luck. Ive opened door 4 and think I know the border and core. But not what to do from there

Safe - I have the Boudoir and Office ones. Although I got the code for the Office listening to Northern Lion so that felt like cheating. I know theres one in the Study which I think may be Herberts graduation day. Other than that no clue where the 5 others are

Grotto - no f***ing idea on the password or chips

classroom - only done grade 2 which I already knew and figured out the color association with the sanctum for borders. Just need the stars to align on this one

vault - just need the key to open it. But no runs have aligned with a coat check or vault to open

unsure if there is anything else Ive forgotten though

My despairing Dare playthrough continues. However, I see the light now. I got a wrench and effectively made 3 rooms better than they are on my main file

Makes me want to restart my main file somewhat, considering nearly everything is available to solve from the get go

I got to 46 on day 17ish??? Didn't write it down.

And notably, it took me another 2 days to find the computer password --> read electronic mail --> solve the breaker box puzzle --> get the gem cavern. This is going to help my resource economy sooo much.

I would say not getting the gemstone cavern b4 the 46 is pretty impressive lmao

One thing to mention, only about 28% of players on Steam got to 46, even though it's arguably the beginning of the really difficult stuff

I.... I fucked up... I had an insane run where I got to the antechamber and had enough room setup to go to the basement. I solved all the crate dragging puzzle there and unlocked a bunch of shit but

I lost track of my room access count. My heart sank when it turned out I visited the very first room 3 times already... I really wish I didn't get greedy and just ended the day...

had some progress this morning buying out almost everything in the bookshop and figured out the puzzle in the tomb

also found the servent quarter note for the admin password. I did try RuotH which obviously didnt work. So tried to Google to check the first name was correct and immediately got spoiled on the correct solution. Im going to pretend I didnt see it and wait till I get to see Randolfs surname as I would have tried that but have never bothered to retain any of the staffs names.

It's not technically spoilers because everybody's Dare Mode dares are different, but my dares were very very difficult. I needed to draft Lavatory and not enter the same room more than 3 times, which prompted this type of tracking. It was easy to keep track of but I messed up once so I started making a tracking image for it

Just on your regular run, imagine having to draft a 2* rarity dead end room every run and also Shelter ruins the condition. But also you can't eat, and you have to buy an item which makes all aquariums an auto game over. Also it makes all shops worse because I can ONLY buy 1 item

I tried Curse mode and it genuinely feels easier than my dare mode. Just gonna say it

made some more progress.

read the Realm book in the Library. And realised that all the flavour text about the countries that I have so far ignored because who cares about that right, is super important. So thats annoying

also got my first draft of the Gallery. I got the 5 letter word and then just immediately cheated and glad I did. I was never getting any of those and seems like theres no clues either. That led me to Room 8 which I got 5 right but no clue how the remaining 3 relate.

Going to aim to gather gold and buy out the remaining books as well as try get all the Lab mail deliveries. Does anyone know If you need the Mail Rook drafted to get the mail or does it all just work?

All the different upgrades seemingly give the same story crucial secrets. If there is a specific upgrade that gives you some clues the other ones don't, I personally haven't seen it yet. At best, the Cloister upgrades feel a bit impactful, but the thing has like 8 paths of upgrades and we only get 3 choices per an entire playthrough. I doubt they'd go out of their way to put something major in there.

You don't need it drafted

also those deliveries are all just gradually more and more direct hints to some relatively early puzzles. like nothing super new and maybe hinting so strong some people might consider them spoilers so not saying you can't get them but I wouldn't fuss too hard over them

On my dare I got Draxus and I forget who I did in the regular save. Also I think there are 7 upgrades actually, since the base is the scepter girl

I dunno if Cursed Mode has a day count limit but honestly it's not been that bad. I'm playing for the long game and trying to scale. I was literally 1 step away from unlocking the tomb though now I'm wondering if I just try to snipe for tomb and leave 1 lvl below the top for reservoir... now that I'm thinking about it. Sigh it's something to think about I guess. It's really hard to do long movement tech like this though with only 13 steps

But even though I've gone past 14 days, it has been like not even remotely as difficult as my dare mode.

I unlocked that on like day1? and the gem mine too ofc. conservatory I think was day 2-3. it's probably the route I will want to take as well but I think it's harder than you're making it out to be - just walking to the underground lever and back is probably like 13 steps alone, so you basically need to figure out a way to gain insane amount of steps while also building the whole way through the house while super low on keys/gems

I guess I could go back in my run history and check how many steps I used total in my first clear run

You definitely gotta do it in more than 1 day. The unlocking of tomb into the underground takes around 5 steps one way. If you don't do the 1 lvl below for reservoir, then you basically gotta drag the cart and do an actual run where you go into the foundations. At the very least the puzzle under the foundation doesn't really take steps. Starting from the tomb just doesn't really make sense steps wise. You absolutely have to unlock everything and leave the sanctum pathway unlocked and then get a really gnarly run with steps surplus

I've had like 40 steps b4. Basically you gotta prioritize getting the one that gives you 5 steps per bedroom and the eye mask. Those 2 basically just does everything

On my day 1, I mostly unlocked the gemstone cavern and the side door and 3 of the torches. You really don't get to unlock much per day without great luck after day 1, cuz that was by far my most productive day lol

I'm at like day 60+ on one file and combine day 30 on other runs for the trophy and I'm still learning new stuff, so yeah guys like Jason Schreier spending 120+ hours on the game is no joke. You absolutely can do this and then some

So havent made too much progress lately.

in the Grotto I found the admin password and thats a life saver. But now there is another password to get

got spoiled on the 4th Sanctum Key watching Northern Lion so now I have 3 of those done. Also got the Drawing RoomSafe done. Although that was half me cheating it and half through my wife so have 5 letters. I know of one in the Study but no clue how to open that one

bit of backstory. My wife loves to play and she can be super oblivious and not pay attention to what shes doing. For instance she asked me how to solve the Tomb and I said Id cough when she entered the room with the clue. She entered it and I coughed and coughed and she just looked at me and asked if I was ok and to take a lozenge.

so she was in the Underground and just strolled into the red door area which id never seen before. I figured out where Id seen something like that before and went and activated it. So got everything from down there. Brute forced the lock on the gate. Was I supposed to do that or is there a clue I was supposed to find later for that?

also managed to find the secret in the laundry and accidentally converted large amounts of my allowance into stars which hurts because I wanted to loot the last shop

my Wife also managed to get a power hammer and smash a wall in the chessboard area it had the word CASTLE as an anagram made up of 3 letter words. I think one might be CAT since Ive seen a heap of CAT images around but no clue on the rest. Hoping one is ASS

yep. And have the entire thing worked out.

regarding what I did I knew it was related to small gates counting and dates specifically. The option for May8 though I got through brute force of seeing what months I could make so wasnt sure if there was something else I was supposed to find that would lead me a bit closer to that specific date

ah ok. See I was thinking shortening the month to 3 letters Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr etc and there were a few options for that. So I felt like I brute forced it because May was the first one I tried

Also... still doing cursed mode, and I've opened the last door 3 days in a row and reached Rank 9 about twice when it was opened. Then of course nothing else fucking got right and I just lose. Either way it's so possible it hurts

Ok I have one complaint about the game and it may just be because I havent seen another clue

but its regarding the safes

I feel like two of the ways to get to the combination seem misleading in a way. Specifically the Drafting Dtudio and the Drawing Room.

The Drafting Studio puzzle has the calendar with the small gates. So I count to 8 and day 1 is Nov 7th so clearly day 8 should be 14/11. Yet you need to entirely disregard day1/nov 7 to get the answer

similarly the Drawing Room - 4 photos of Gaits so I figure count photos up based on length of gait. Subtract when the photo is backwards. But again its disregard two of the gaits and direction means nothing.

I dont know if theres another clue somewhere Ive missed but these two feel frustrating to get the actual answer to

if you go in blind and love escape room puzzles with a bit of roguelike element (that is entirely manipulatable) then youll probably think its the best game released in a long time

Yeah very much so. It's great and quite addictive. Might take a while to really get into the groove of things and it's easy to get frustrated early on due to RNG (hell that's why I made this unofficial discussion topic lol), but when it does start to fit it hits hard.

If you have Game Pass or PS+ give it a try for sure.

Would you mother fucking believe it? I didn't think that that Cloister upgrade would be the key...

Did you know that the Aquarium is also a black room? Beautiful. Aquarium does indeed activate every single punishment btw. But does it matter? It secured the dub. I almost got fucked in the last one and happened to have a single dice. That's all it took...

God this took a while. Was it harder than Dare? Not really, but the level of knowledge and planning this took was insane. I think it's harder than several Dare combinations tbf. You really do have to take advantage of nearly every little shortcuts and tricks you find out throughout your regular run. I dunno a single secret I didn't use that didn't perhaps involve the Sanctum Keys which are really only good for a couple more allowances I suppose

I didn't think I could do it, and so far, only 0.2% of ppl on Steam did it.
