I don't know if I can watch Guardians 3 again. I loved it, but the overall theme of animal cruelty by the High Evolutionary is too much for me.

Guardians: a well-written character, treated seriously, given a meaningful role in the plot, and performed by a top-tier actor can be compelling, even a raccoon.

Hollywood: so you're saying we should raid our IP junk drawer because anything makes money now?

Guardians: no, even a slight breeze...

Hollywood: *walking out the door* ...infinite money.

The one thing I really don't like about GotG3 is how the entire planet of humanimals gets mass killed without a lot of focus on the lost lives of the people who sheltered the guardians, but then the finale wants us to care a lot about saving the regular non sentient animals lol

I feel like it's a running trope in space fantasy media where global destruction is meant to showcase a villain's bad baddery without actually dwelling on the profound magnitude of said crime and how it should affect the characters. No one cared about Alderaan getting destroyed like five minutes after it happens: "Oh hey my entire planet and practically everyone I ever knew and loved got blown up like a couple hours ago but let me console this teenager who just lost an old man he knew for like a week."

In the comics; hes basically an alien. That is very similar to a raccoon.

Its implied he may have been one but he was actually never born on earth in the comics and grew up under twisted alien scientists. He has no real memories of his earliest moments.

In the movies yeah he is one.

Thematically, it fits. The movie starts out with Creep. The only non-sociopath/psychopath featured is spoiler at the end. Its really about coming to terms with who you are and supporting each other and family which doesnt necessarily mean blood related. I also think this extends in a meta sense to the director who is loyal to his family (friends) and they stuck by him also until the end, even if hes a kinda messed up individual. Ive said before the dance scene at the end is people trying to be ok even though they know they are not which is ok ultimately.

Its a dark take on wellness which is why Id say it probably one of the best films Marvel made overall. Analogy to the Creation was on the nose overdone and stupid but read above, lol. I think the audience showing up for Gunn and making this film a success when all the online/YouTube pundants trashed it and gave it no hope (like Marvel did Gunn) was the cherry on the top of the cake. I feel like its the last great Marvel film and a solid send off b/c really I view DP&W as a Fox Universe film and send off. The only thing Marvel about that film was the Color Grading imo.

Yeah, Leia's tough but she's a little too tough here. It would have been nice to have even a quick scene about how upset she is inside over Alderaan.
