You failed Thy Flesh Consumed? Are playing under special stipulations or did just not know you could save anywhere?

E4M1 is pretty brutal though, it almost requires perfection.

I'm glad shooters went away from the maze level design. Trying to find where to go isn't what I consider fun.

I do not want to overwrite my current saves. I use an alternate site and cookies to save.

Blame OCD.

I briefly tried E4 and swiftly came to my senses.

Ah, I assumed it was the recent NightDive remaster.

Check out PlayStation doom when you're done with Doom II, it's basically a remix of Doom I and II as a single giant campaign with updated colored lighting and a unique horror atmosphere.

I use an external site which uses cookies, it's a built in browser emulator site.

Doom II literally has the same save slots as classic Doom, it's getting it's info from somewhere.

I do not have the computer app, and I don't think Romero is distributing it. I heard it is about $5 on Steam.

I do not use Steam.

It might also be on GOG which would be DRM free and not require a launcher. Haven't checked though.

If your playing through an Archive.org version, the PSone version is probably playable on there as well.

Edit: yep, it's on GOG.

It's also on sale. You don't need to touch Steam.

GOG?

Is it downloadable to a HD? And officially by the devs?

Episode 4 overall is a huge downgrade compared to the rest of the game. It was made after Doom 2 essentially as a quick cash grab to sell physical retail copies of the game. Adding a new episode was done to entice people to buy it even if they played Doom 1 before. (Interestingly enough, Doom 1 was first only released online and by mail order and wasn't sold in stores).

Never did try the actual classic doom.

Still, if you are up for another run of classics, try Descent and Descent 2.

You play as ship but with 3 axis of movement in addition to 3 axis of rotation and it is worth a go for any classic FPS player.

Yes. GOG don't use DRM, you can download the installer from the website to your HD and install it locally, play it, mod it etc. without ever logging in again. (Although this release does have a built in mod manager that if you want to use you would need to log into a Bethesda account - that said it is only for multiplayer/mod downloads, and you can do those easily enough by using the provided files from GOG alongside a different SourcePort such as GZDoom).

GOG is legal and above board.

GOG is literally CD Projekt Red, 100% legal, everything is licensed and official.

Extremely pro-consumer and anti-most-crap-in-the-industry additude.

If you want to give Romero money, I'm pretty sure he's more than okay with this version considering it features Sigil in addition to Doom I and II.

Ah, I assumed it was the recent NightDive remaster.

It's not really a Nightdive Remaster, it's a Bethesda Remaster basically. Nightdive just made an episode for it called Legacy of Rust.

But I like it because being able to play Doom natively on WIDESCREEN in High Definition is pretty cool. If only the console version could have the smooth animations consistently on instead of it acting like a Map Pack.

I don't think that's accurate. NightDive ported the old Unity version to their own in-house engine, Kex. The same engine Blood Fresh Supply and the PowerSlave remaster run on. It's very much a NightDive remaster.
