Skies of Arcadia x10

Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes - it's the game they demo'd at Toys R Us for the Dreamcast and it was pretty damn cool, maybe slow for modern mecha games and short overall but a lot of detail and beautiful levels.

And it's aged relatively well. The graphics are choice since it's top down generally. All it needs is an auto fill map but drawing your own is interesting.

Blue Stinger is a good one; Christmas Capcom arcade horror

On an actual DreamCast, I've only played Crazy Taxi and IllBleed.

Crazy Taxi is a classic, good ****ing luck finding a copy of IllBleed for under a hundred.

The batteries are pretty easy to swap thankfully.

I have one with a weak laser, I am debating modding it with an ODE.

Toy Commander

Look into the VM2. New vmu made by a third party company. Allows you to insert a micro SD card into their vmu for essentially unlimited save storage. The storage on official vmus are tiny.

If you haven't gotten/played them in other locations, I'd second Skies of Arcadia and add Marvel Vs Capcom 2. And a general second for Power Stone.

The only one I can say that I haven't seen mentioned is Seventh Cross Evolution, but check into that game first because it is absolutely not for everyone.

There have been great suggestions in this topic so I'll cover what hasn't been mentioned:

Zombie Revenge. It's a hilarious horror beat-em-up that takes place in the House of the Dead universe. The cutscenes are B-movie greatness, just like HotD.

Plasma Sword is a sci-fi Capcom fighting game. It's getting its first port since the DC with an upcoming Capcom compilation that releases in May.

Test Drive Le Mans is tied for the best racing game on the system with some of the best graphics on the system. I'd say it's tied with Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 on both of those points.

Also, about Quake 3: it has a different soundtrack from the PC version, and it absolutely kicks ASS.

There's a keyboard, I don't think there's a mouse. The keyboard was made and used just to facilitate chat in early online games. I don't think any games use it for controls, but I could be wrong.

I mean it just went straight into your phone line at the time. I don't see why it wouldn't, though any online services would have to be run by the developers. Like, the official Phantasy Star Online servers have long since shut down for example. But the web browser at least should still work (modern sites probably look horrible though). I also don't know if there was ever a broadband adapter for it so you might actually need dial up...

Edit: to clarify, there was no central online service like PSN or Xbox Live. Every game handled its online individually. And it came with a web browser CD just to look at the internet.

There was a central service at the time: SegaNet. However, you're right that it's not required to go online (ChuChu Rocket and Sega Swirl, for example, were online games available before SegaNet was launched). Fans are hosting their own servers, so you can still play Quake 3 and Phantasy Star Online on private servers.

There was a Dreamcast mouse, and you could use it with the keyboard to play shooters like Quake: https://segaretro.org/Dreamcast_Mouse

There was also a Dreamcast broadband adapter.
