Being able to make a living by doing a bunch of cocaine and making some bullshit cartoon must have been great.

For a while, maybe, but it doesn't sound like the healthiest career prospect long-term.

I am almost positive I saw this as a kid. I definitely remember some really lame "Shazam" shows, and parts seem really familiar. Late 1970s to early 80s.

I remember the song from commercials, but I don't remember that particular scene. I rarely watched CBS cartoon shows back in the early 80s.

Seems like a prerequisite for a lot of the best cartoons tbh.

I was born in 75. I still can hear the theme song in my head because it was one of the shows I lived to watch every Saturday. Based on that, I would say early 80's.

Not long ago it was socially acceptable and even encouraged for shows to throw in hidden things like that for the parents. Its how Shrek became popular

That was the true meaning of "family show". Your average household had one TV in the den that everyone shared, so shows would cater to the widest demographic spread possible. It would have to simultaneously entertain a five-year old and a fifty-five year old if need be.

I remember watching the "Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters" variety show on prime time NBC with my grandmother as a little kid because they had a portion of the show with puppets.

The cartoon version of the lead singer was literally Freddie from Scooby Doo.

I think this actually started as an Archie cartoon before they lost the license and had to file the serial numbers off. Kinda like how Donkey Kong started as a Popeye game and Scooby-Doo as a Dobie Gillis adaptation.
