Yay for getting my order in on time.

I will eat out at a local, family-owned Afghani restaurant. That's all I intend to spend tomorrow.

That's at least 20 days of the month for me.

Should be bi-weekly imo. Every single person.

Ive been doing much of this for years. Never Walmart. Rarely fast food. No Target since the election.

Buy Nothing Day is black Friday. The thing going on tomorrow is a general strike.

Tomorrow is my payday. I will definitely be buying some things lol

I doubt businesses would think much of one day, if the overall spend for the week/month is the same and people have just moved the spend to a different day; doubly so if they know it's a planned thing.

If y'all seriously want to pursue this idea - and it's not a terrible one - you're gonna have to drag it out for far more than one day.

Better to buy local/from a company you can accept getting stuff from than to just skip a day and end up buying stuff at the usual place again anyway later.

If people really want to effect quarterly projections, they should not buy anything on the Weekend for 4 whole months. Not just 1 day. 1 day is pretty much slacktivism.

All my subscriptions already got money for that day though

Many people are boycotting on a regular basis. Every small step does matter.

Generally speaking everyone should be cutting back on consumption if for no other reason than the environment can't handle it.

I am actually really curious about the consumption habits of people who can't go a week without buying stuff, let alone a day. What are you buying?

I am not including groceries, utilities, rent, insurance, etc for the purposes of that question.

Most of my week is usually buy nothing >_>

Well if we're not counting stuff like food and bills, I haven't bought anything since December.

I normally buy my groceries for the week every Friday. But thankfully I'm off work all week, so I can do my grocery store run today instead. So I'll join the buy nothing day, but I still think they chose a bad day if they want high participation.

Keep in mind this isn't asking you to starve. If you legitimately have no choice in the matter, then go ahead and spend.

But if you can afford not to, tomorrow would be a great day to start not spending. Or to buy local.

I would personally say that the strike probably shouldn't apply to companies that remain committed to DEI but it's up to you.

How will we know if this is impactful? The data we'd need would have to come from the companies and I doubt they will share that.

Cause that would be a lot of work. This is just going to encourage those who typically don't shop on Fridays to do so knowing there might be fewer people.

Companies had a panic shit fit about business being slow for two weeks because of a deadly pandemic. They'll notice one day of abysmal sales.
