If you were to ask me at any other time prior to MAGA, I would've laughed and think it's an absurb and stupid idea. But theseday I'm starting to feel it's for the best that the US split into two separate country. No point in being "united" when he entire country constantly get dragged down by morons, fascists and bigots. The damages MAGA has caused - domestically and internationally - will take decades to fix if not irreparable. And they will continue to wreck havoc.

If Dems somehow won 2028 they're going to have to spend their entire term trying to fix those damages (the damages MAGA has done in Trump first term still hasn't been fixed), and thus we will continue to be stuck without any real progress.

Maybe by splitting the country up we can finally make some real progress for those of us who want no part of this stupidity and fascism. The MAGA cult and stay on the other side with their dear leader instead of constantly dragging the rest of us down.

How would passports and citizenship work?

Geographically, the divide between left and right leaning Americans is mostly urban vs rural. There are lots of people in red states who vote Democrat and vice-versa. There's no reasonable way that you could divide the country into blue and red America.

There's likely no state with greater than a 60:40 split, maybe 65:35. It's not going to work like you think it will. Really try to think through the end domino of consequences if this were to occur.

Im a trans woman who is currently living in Texas. Many like me would be unable to leave if this happened.

Wanting to split up America based on ideologies while ignoring all the short and long-term implications and consequences is just as stupid as Trump's "build a wall" nonsense.

ignoring that a red/blue split would have some kind of wack nonsense where you have east and west coast separated by a large swath of poor country, this proposal always overlooks that there's millions of ideologically opposed people living in these states who can't just pick up sticks and move.

Even supposedly deep red Texas is 55-45 R-D. 4.8 MILLION Texans voted for Harris last November, more than the total population of half of all states.

The Roman Empire split into two when they got too unwieldy and divided. Didn't work out for one half. >_>

9 times out of 10, if not every time, this idea comes from people who live in blue states who won't have to suffer under whatever MAGA Republican hell hole that comes from a split.

And why should the country change? It's the Trumpers who suck.

As much as I'd love to see the power split up so it can't all be held by a dictator, such a split would not be in any way simple or feasible. The real split isn't blue vs red states, it's generally the cities vs everyone else. The fascist side would still have blue cities while the non fascist side would still have a shit ton of Republican voters. Hell, there were more red voters in California than literally any red state.

That wouldnt work for numerous reasons. Not the least of which being how intermingled everyone within the two groups are across the country.

As in, just because a state is colored red or blue doesnt mean said state is entirely that, or even close to it.

Let everyone pick which side they want to live in before the borders are set. Rural or city, doesn't matter. You move or stay. Your choice. But no whining after the 2 new nations are formed amd borders established

there'd be no point to this but it's always worth mentioning when these topics come up that another US civil war would likely be stochastic in nature and militia based.

Has anything like this proposed idea ever been attempted in history? Usually nations are based on territory. I've never heard of a situation where a nation decides to split in 2 and lets everyone pick their side peacefully before settling the borders

We have a very famous incident of something like that happening, it's just the borders weren't written by the people in the nation.

We call it "Israel."

Didn't work out for the Western side, but the Eastern side trucked along for 1000 more years.
