Now, now, maybe that person's eight-fingered hand is a deep metaphor for society.

i saw a AI "artist" get pissed when some one copied his "art" 100% obvious to the hypocrisy

also saw a ai "writer" actually come up with something himself and was super proud of it and i was like yea now imagine if you wrote a entire story your self

Legit, though, I sometimes feel like I'm not cutthroat enough to tell someone throwing up AI art that's shamelessly AI that it's too obvious what they're doing, even though I'm rankled by seeing it.

Like I need to be nice about it, even though I think it's really just a travesty and something that they need to feel bad about.

I say this primarily about stuff I see on DeviantArt where the person who posted it is like "tee hee, I guess it came out a little weird." Yeah, it came out weird because you're not in control of the fucking output.

How does an AI artist exactly get paid? Do they just generate AI art and charge for it? It's scummy as hell but not a bad hustle.

Yeah, I see people selling AI "adoptables" or AI commissions on DeviantArt often, and I'm just there thinking... "Who would buy these? They could just go into their AI program of choice and make something very similar to that."

I'm neutral to AI, but DeviantArt allowing AI on their platform was a huge mistake. (Plus, they have their own AI generative as well, trained on people's art posted on the site, which was a huge controversy when it was revealed.)

If they are passing off AI art as not AI, fair enough.

I dunno. One of them is a mod here. Why don't you ask him?

Most "artists" that use AI pretend that they did the work. Especially when it was new. Most people in grifter spaces still try to pass AI art as their own (lol, I know, but that's just an easy example).

Why don't you all understand that actually drawing/painting/writing something requires just as much, if not less, creativity and talent as typing a prompt in a box and letting a computer steal it for you?

Indeed. If AI-generated content qualifies as 'art,' then I'm an artist every time I successfully punch in the code for my bag of Doritos at a vending machine.

Yeah, using AI for art actually makes me feel a bit empty inside.

I go to an art school, and it's literally encouraged in most classes. "It's just a tool, it's the future, get over it" to paraphrase some professors.

I kind of understand it because we often don't have time to make original assets, but it feels soulless.

It's not that simple. There is a bit of a learning curve to setting everything up. It can be intimidating if you're not computer savvy. You also need hardware capable of running the software to begin with.

There is a lot more to it, is all I'm saying.

One of the official rules is almost quite literally "AI art is treated as if you made it yourself, but AI for code or writing is plagiarism."

Again, it kind of makes sense when one of the assignments is "make a video game in two weeks", but I really miss the days of doodling on my wacom.

I still occasionally will opt to fire up Blender or Krita in defiance.

Reminds of those meme pages in social who take a scene or pic from an anime or tv shows and slap a caption over it and then get pissed if someone stole their work without permission

AI artists are artists in the same way that Guitar Hero players are musicians.

Isn't there somebody on this board who uses AI art for D&D characters because their DM doesn't want them to steal peoples art?

Hypothetically, you could train AI completely on your own art that you created. I don't think that exists yet though. It could be a neat concept to essentially remix a massive amount of your own work

Some artists simply use AI tools, some generate some images, and some use the popular style that basically every AI image is for their art.

And the easiest way to find out who does what is to call them out because the artist, using the term loosely, who just slap out raw AI generated images usually get offended immediately.

Reminds me of the school I went to. People went there for things like video production, music engineering and video game design. They were all very vocal about their support for piracy. But ask them if they'd be OK with people pirating anything they worked on in the future and suddenly piracy was a bad thing.

I have way more respect for a Guitar Hero player than an AI artist

Because they know they are fake and don't want to admit it, getting called out forces them to see themselves for what they really are.

but it baffles me why people use AI to write straighforward reddit posts that aren't particularly helpful or interesting.

It's more like the reaction when someone points out how obviously AI something is. If people can tell something is AI then there must be a reason for it. Don't act like "who fucking asked you," when someone points out those traits.

The term is "someone who has an AI make a picture."

It isn't art, they aren't an artist. It has nothing to do with art on any level.

You can do that, absolutely. You can train a model using any artwork.
