Okay, so I just finished How I Met Your Mother, and I have to ask: Am I the only one who thinks the entire last season kind of sucked? Like, I get that they wanted to do something different, but dedicating a whole season to a wedding weekend just felt unnecessary?

And dont even get me started on how they rushed the actual Mother storyline. We spent nine seasons waiting for her, and then they just you know. I wont spoil it for anyone, but wow.

Anyway, I cant be alone in thinking this. Did anyone else feel like the last season was a letdown? Or am I just being too harsh?

This is a pretty common opinion. It has its moments (like finally learning Barneys job) but overall it was a horrible send off for an otherwise fantastic show.

Only good episodes in the last season were the ones that actually had the mother in it.

Oh yeah I forgot the how your mother met me episode was in that season. Tracy was great in every scene.

Everyone hates the last season and it retroactively made the rest of the series garbage, imo.

This is the standard take. It's like the last season of GoT where it just kills the hype and no one wants to talk about it anymore.

I actually think S8 is worse than the final season.

The final season is slightly bloated, it does have some strange out of character type moments, but it also has some of the strongest episodes in the series.

I think Jason Segel missing the first half of the season also messed up the season too. But I think Season 9 had many bad episodes but the good episodes were always about the mother.

I would have preferred if the first half of Season 9 focuses on the wedding and it ends at Ted waiting at the train station.

Second half of Season 9 focuses on the future where Ted and the mother dating, have a family, etc.

The final scene is when they meet under the umbrella.

Honestly it started to lose steam after they started to flash forward to Barney and Robins wedding. They spent like 4 seasons building to it. At least that's when I started to not like it as much. But I really am surprised at how well the mother actually lived up to the hype. Still the last season wasn't great and the ending was even worse.

For me it was always best as a comedy with a bit of drama. Gradually it sort of became a drama with a bit of comedy.

The last 4 or so seasons were very ordinary.

And the very end they fucked up bad with the Robin stuff. They should have left it at he met the wife, they had a great life as a couple, she died and Ted's retelling of the story is a way to keep her memory alive for him and the kids.

Have a bitter sweet ending, not Ted getting with Robin for the 50th time.

The only thing that I vividly remember from the final season was Lily giving a bunch of money to the bartender "Linus" to make sure her glass is always filled with booze

Yeah it's already kinda weird that he's telling the story of how he fucked a bunch of random chicks including their aunt before meeting their mom. And then after all that they're like "you clearly wanna keep banging our aunt, go do it"

Wait, it just clicked. Ted is a sociopath. I kinda want to rewatch now and see all the tell-tale signs. He could very well be a narcissist. There's plenty of times he randomly goes off the rails and does crazy things without a care in the world who he's hurting.

I feel like Im in the minority with this opinion but here it is: the last season of the show was bad but the actual series finale was good.
