Either she's planning something, or they broke her.

Really hope it's the former, because it would be disappointing if she "grew up" into yet another establishment Democrat who accomplishes little, and gets us into situations like the one we're in now.

We need fresh, new ideas. Not more status quo who promises they'll totally fix things this time if we just vote for them.

She's taking what is the only reasonable route. If she doesn't play ball, she has no power within the party regardless of her stances. Things she wants to do can only be done with enough support to back her.

I'll reserve judgement until we actually see what she can do. Sadly you do have to "play ball" in this country. We've seen multiple times how much harder Dems will fight third party over Republicans.

I just hope she doesn't forget who she is once she actually has the power to change things.

How much did AOC achieve on policy working with her colleagues as opposed to pointless infighting with them?

This is tiresome. Jamal Bowman and Cori Bush were ridiculous people with horrible political instincts. AOC decided she wanted a political futue and to get shit done, but we all know that isn't what the online left actually wants.

Oh, and someone on the left wanna explain why Fancy McUnionbust has a platform still after the shit he pulled with Tara Reade?

With the recent losses progressives took in Dem primaries, I think she realized that the progressive wing isn't about to take over the party soon. The only way to make a difference is going to be to build bridges within the party so she can become more powerful.

Who is in favor of pointless infighting? When you can work with the people in power to do good things, you do them. What you don't do is swear off criticizing the bad for some misguided vision of unity or for self-advancement. A party that simply follows leadership and values conformity over breaking cycles of complicity and complacency will be a party of stagnation and will lose rather than gain people. There's no evidence that leaning more into politics as usual right now will lead us out of the wilderness. Being unable to criticize an extremely unpopular status quo because you're buddying up to the people creating it is bad, period.

It's not an either or between being good at politics or being progressive/leftist.

This isn't just what she was doing and you know it. She was throwing herself into every primary before she was even inaugurated, supporting protesters against her colleagues and the speaker, and constantly elevating minor disputes to her twitter followers. When people addressed things with her behind closed doors, she immediately ran to social media to complain about it. This isn't just "criticizing the bad," she pissed off a lot of her colleagues and it's a little hard to say this was effective.

This is literally not what she claimed or what this says, or what she said she was going to do. She didn't take a vow to never criticize anyone or fight for what she believes, she said she'd stop pointlessly antagonizing her own party and would knock off trying to jump into every race. This wasn't criticism, other Dems were mad she tried to help primaries to get them out.

And you can argue she was right to do so. Pelosi's stance was to blanket support every incumbent to keep the caucus together. But if she keeps doing that and the primaries fail, you'll have people who aren't gonna vote you into leadership.

And then once you have enough position and power in the party to have "made it" you are instead shackled by the very fact that they can and will remove that power from you the moment you so much as think about rocking the boat.

Remember the absolute shitshow when they wanted Biden gone. Remember how very public and humiliating that month was.

Joining to change from within is an absolute meme. You either end up converted to the comfy golden cage and settle in to enjoy the financial perks of power or you get chewed up and spat out by the machine. Never anything besides that. The machine can and will choose to destroy itself before it bends to what it views as radical change.

The New Deal wasn't one thing. It was a whole bunch of things, and some would be decried heavily today because of FDR holding back as fa as some could go.

We also aren't comparable to the Depression right now, and FDR had insane majorities in congress. Which FDR maintained by sacrificing civil rights legislation.
