I used to always choose Typhlosion, but after the allegations against him, I decided to switch it up and try Totodile and wow, this dude is awesome. He can take a hit pretty well and has some pretty good attacks too with this stats. Surf, Ice Punch, Earthquake, and Dynamic Punch are awesome on this guy. Plus Rage and Bite were great in the beginning too. idk why I never tried him before, but I think he might be my new favorite Gen 2 starter now.

Chikorita still sucks tho LMAO. Never choosing that pile of garbage

*Shrug* Cyndaquil is still the best pick for gen 2 games but Totodile is decent for sure.

It was definitely something else >_> I cannot even describe what it was without breaking TOS but it's part of the teraleak from pokemon a few months ago.

in context, it's just a bunch of internal rough drafts for the Sinnoh folklore where pokemon and people married in the old days, but it still looks really bad lol

there were folklore drafts for Sinnoh games that drew from various folklore, mythologies and parables from around the world, greek, native american, eastern european, etc. to provide some extra colour to the region. unfortunately dumbasses can't comprehend the concept of fairy tales and now constantly make paedo jokes about typhlosion. because the top takeaway of greek mythology is "wow swans are fucked up", you know?

Oh wow. So looks like Quagmire was originally supposed to be a single stage, and Heracross was supposed to be Pincer's evolution. Also doesn't look like there's a pseudo legendary line.

The game was still in beta, so I think they were just transitioning to different pokemon designs in that build

Like look at the baby Meowth sprite above. Those 3 coins above it are probably just placeholders to see which coin looks best on its head. They're all different designs. In the demo part of the game, the player only got one of the starters (which couldn't evolve cuz it was disabled), a hoppip, pidgey, ledyba, caterpie, and rattata (I think they all had the ability to evolve, but it's pretty unlikely you'll see it though). The player could fight against those pokemon plus Meowth, Magby, Clefairy, and Slowking. The rest of these sprites weren't meant to be seen by the public.

Also, I think the pokemon center is disabled in the demo, so eventually you'll just white out and end the demo anyway >_> It was pretty limited.

I had forgotten how much I liked some of those designs and I love espeon, but two real tails like that would have been waaay better

Oh ok had no idea. Only thing I knew about was people wanted to have sex with Gardevoir on the GameFAQs pokemon boards.

Still one of my favorite starters. Its even alright in the newer games thanks to Sheer Force, sort of a discount Gyarados.

My first one was named Beefcakes and I still maintain its a perfect nickname

I remember these! Leafeon being planned for Gen 2 is wild to me, honestly shouldve happened.

GSC/HGSS Feraligatr is one of the most famously broken starters for in-game of all time. You get Surf before the fourth gym (yes it runs off special attack, it's still very strong) and it evolves at level 30. No wonder they never did that again.

yeah it is like the only one of the GSC starters that has gotten meaningful buffs for competitive. They tried with Typhlosion but that didn't save it for terribly long.

its movepool is huge and has quite a bit of good stuff Gyarados does not have, like Swords Dance for much faster Attack boosting (it hits a lot harder at +2 than Gyara does after a DD) and Aqua Jet for priority along with Sheer Force making stuff like Liquidation/Waterfall way stronger. It isn't really an OU pick in most gens but it is always a good pick whatever low tier its in.

Totodile was always the best starter for Gen 2, surprised TC is just now coming around to this

Oh yeah, early surf (I forgot about that) and him evolving at level 30 was a nice surprise. Definitely choosing Totodile again in future playthrus >_>

Can also just give it Slash which is spammable enough that you might want to pp up it. The only difficult fights it has are Withney and Red's Venusaur depending on what level you are.

Gyarados just outclasses him

Water is such a good type that you can't go wrong with that anyway. Especially when it's two of the best Water types available.

The prototype sprite for Ledian definitely makes the 5 star pokemon description more accurate because it has 5 stars on its back, unlike the final version >_> No clue why they decided to keep that descriptor for it
