I never understood how adding sexually attractive men and women in games was ever a problem. We love our near naked women. Its just human nature.

It somehow became a problem when younger generations started to become more sex-negative. Honestly, there was a time when the far right used to be utter prudes while the left were all about embracing sexiness.

This whole issue of "attractive characters" started by people who do not play games. I don't understand why anyone cares about their opinions?

People of both genders typically want to play an appealing character. Yea I know there is the funny videos of people playing games with character creators where they make the ugliest character possible but they are not the norm.

Partially agree. I would say Overwatch is one of the most diverse cast in a game. I would also say that OW isn't that far away from most other games, body diversity wise(not a bad thing).

As for the topic, why is the sky falling if this one game(Rivals) is successful. It doesn't negate all the other diverse games prior or the ones to come.

Exactly. It's like telling people it's wrong to like food that tastes good or flowers that smell pretty >_>

I think more Western game developers shouldn't be afraid to bring sexy back. Sure, some people will get offended, but I think what matters more is creating a game that is both fun and visually appealing.

So the issue is not that flowers are pretty, it's that at some point only roses are considered pretty. Then it's only red roses are pretty, and only red roses should exist. What detractors usually want is for there to also be space for not just lilies and iris's, but sunflowers and dandelions. They want the world to not just be manicured front lawns of Kentucky Blue grass.

We got rid of that because it wasn't fun. Why do women have to exist to be sexy objects to be lusted over? If a woman isn't half naked and sexy it's woke now. All games should be like Stellar Blade with ludicrous ass-shots. We demand it

I don't dislike fanservice in of itself. I dislike it when it doesn't reflect the character's personality.

Depends on the vibe of the game. If it's a more grounded and realistic game the people should look like normal people and not porcelain dolls with big eyes and tiny noses.

Marvel Rivals needs bishounen and ikemen.

People talk about "bringing sexy back" as if it ever left.

Agreed. While the current roster of men is good, I would very much like to see Iceman, Gambit, and Cyclops join the fray.

A little is fine with me, just as long as the character isn't a minor. Part of the reason I dropped a few anime was because of this

Complaining about vanillaware games is futile. The last time people complained about Dragon's Crown the artist drew up and released a picture of the dwarf wearing nothing but a thong.

I did think that Sue Richards was given more assets than you normally associate with her, which is weird. I have less of an issue with her having a revealing skin(not really that revealing) and more that she was given a BBL for Rivals.

Most western 3D games use scanned real people for the character models, whereas a lot of eastern games, probably the vast majority, design the characters from scratch.

The result is that ironically the scanned models end up looking less realistic than the from scratch ones. Probably not really, but in the way our brains interpret it.

When you see like a cell shaded Hulkenberg in Metaphor, she doesnt look real, but you dont expect her to, so it doesnt bother you. (Though I do find it endlessly amusing that when I went looking for mods, there were 3 or 4 of them dedicated to retexturing her ass so it doesnt look flatter than Might Guys, and after seeing the mods, I couldnt unsee how flat it was).

When you see a model scanned from a real person, you expect it to look real, and it just doesnt. Hence my use of uncanny valley.

No-one wants to devote their time to playing a game where all the characters are disgusting to look at (see: Concord)

This. Its the same philosophy thats applied to movie actors. The good looking people are the leading men/women.

I'll be honest and admit I might not be completely understanding what you mean. Best example that comes to mind for me, and it's probably not a good one but fuck, I can't think of a good one, is in Fire Force. The girl whose flame power have her basically become a flame nekomata, and her being clumsy for the fanservice?

Probably because they don't care what people think of them, which I mean with no disrespect to those people. It, however, can be jarring or at least off putting at times or depending on their attire. No joke, had a person (prolly a guy) in a full latex outfit shop at the grocery store I worked at. Management were very off put and trying to think of how address their outfit for future shopping trips

She's hot and all, but her constant fanservice actually usurping the pace of a fight actually ended up annoying the majority of people reading, at one point. Most of us are gooners, sure, but even anime fans have limits.

I agree, I find it's only Kojima Productions that can produce a proper 3D scan that looks like the person it's based on.
