this is probably what is causing the issue on Firefox for most people

last I heard, privacy badger is pretty redundant nowadays if you're already using uBlock Origin so just close your youtube tab every so often once you notice it slowing down

I thought Privacy Badger was helping. But I spoke too soon. Youtube is still running like shit with all kinds of input lag.

My firefox has permanently buffering youtube videos after about 10 seconds or so, so I just use microsoft edge whenever I am watching youtube on my PC (which still works fine for blocking all ads). Firefox on my phone works fine though.

FF+UBO+PB here. No issues.

The shareholders would immediately sue the ever loving crap out of them, because no matter how much they hate the "piracy" of AdBlockers they'd likely rather eat the incredibly small loss than lose a proverbial waterfall of money.

Not to mention the new face of YouTube would likely push "community first" after to skyrocket profits because everyone loves a comeback story.

They've attempted something like that last year, and the year before, and at different intervals to different people depending on what region you live in (seems these kinda issues and rollouts are not uniform across all platforms, Google typically seems to experiment with a select few million here and there around the world)

Basically when a video is about to play, a warning message appears saying that "we noticed you are using adblock. Please note that doing so will result in all videos being disabled. Please consider subscribing to youtube premium if you wish to watch videos without ads"

They tried this for a couple months to different users, and were probably able to scare some people into (lol) paying for a crappy service.

So while videos still work years later despite adblock, one day who knows, maybe they really will have technology to disable all videos.

Freetube for PC/Mac
Smarttube for Android TV
Newpipe or something similar for Android phones.

I will never watch Youtube with ads. If they force ads, I just won't go to that site anymore.

huhh? I use firefox and have had no issues for months, a year ago it started to get annoying but they quickly fixed whatever issues arose.

I dunno if related but it reminds me of other websites that fell by the way side through the years. Tumblr used to be huge in the early 2010s, there were even links to videos on there and plugs from other websites. Now stumbling on a Tumblr page gives a "this still exists?" vibe.

The part that fucks me up is the ones using an ad blocker are actually an incredibly tiny set of people compared to their overall traffic.

Most on mobile devices or even PC either don't know or care. It's legitimately just them trying to be as greedy as humanly possible.

It really IS wild when you think about it like that. Most of the millions watching YouTube are literally doing so with ads. At work I'm in a department of 50 people, and I'm the only one who uses adblocker and a youtube vanced offshoot!

Whenever anyone shows me a video either on their phone or PC, it's literally riddled with ads and they just stare blankly at it while I try my hardest not to do this:

Newpipe has been broken it seems like for months. It plays a video for a bit (usually about a minute) before getting an error. A shame really. Probably connected to Google/YouTube going after Invidious. Is anyone aware of an alternative to Newpipe that works well?

Anyway, Brave still blocks all of the ads on YouTube at least.

Do the extensions work while using Firefox Focus?

Considering malicious ads have been sneaking back into the online ecosystem (including the abuse of Google's sponsored links...), that company is just downright idiotic.

I stopped visiting social media apps entirely, and very rarely visit video platforms such as Youtube.
Why? I'm not interested in 99.9% of the content. There's so much crap. I rather play videogames or do something else in my free time. That's why I'm not willing to pay for Youtube Premium either. They decided to go full monetarization route over a decade ago. And I decide against paying a subscription fee and against watching ads to fund the content. It's the consequence of their business model.

I ended up getting youtube premium with my phone. It was pitched as coming with my plan, but it turns out I just got a discount on the subscription.

Considering I use the Youtube Xbox app a lot, I find it to be a good value if only because I no longer have to put up with all the full length Prager U and Daily Wire shit they were serving to me as "ads". Sometimes hour long podcasts. Basically made the app unusable.

Plus there's youtube music, which is a plus but I'm not a fan of how it curates stations. Keeps feeding me Black Veil Brides and Ghost when I want to listen to horrorpunk and goth artists.

What I hate is ads during live streams. Especially when they are way louder than the stream itself.

Can't avoid that on a smart TV. But on my computer I use Opera GX

Get privacy badger. It's an extension that blocks the script youtube runs to detect if you've got an ad-blocker from ever running. I use firefox with ublock and privacy badger and all google's weird experimental shit stopped happening for me and hasn't happened yet. Just make sure you clear your cookies after you turn badger on and you should be good to go.

Currently doing fine with Firefox and uBlock, but I'll remember this just in case

Is that what's happening. Newpipe was my backup whenever revanced goes down, but in the last few months newpipe straight up doesn't work. I downloaded the most recent update and it still gave me an error, wouldn't start any videos. When your backup goes down it kinda sucks.

Lucky me that my brother lets me use his Premium then, as this would drive me up the dang wall.

This is tentative but it seems like... the problem's been fixed, believe it or not. That new firefox update seems to have resolved the bizarre slowness that youtube does to the pc. I've kept 4 youtube tabs open for days and a playlist, and it's much better than before.
