Current Events > An Uber Eats order was dropped off at my front door. I didn't order it.

So Ive never used Uber Eats. There was a knock at my door and I didnt answer it right away. When I got to the door, there was a bag on the ground with an order.

All the receipt has is a name, the name of the restaurant, an Uber Eats 5-digit number on it. No address, so I cant give it to whoever ordered it, and I dont recognize the name (its a first name only). I tried calling the restaurant, but I dont think she understood what I was trying to communicate - she just said shed call Uber Eats, but didnt take any of my info or anything from the receipt. And I wanted to call Uber Eats, but they honestly have no way of calling them, and everything on the app is just an FAQ.

I wanna be the Good Samaritan in this case, but I honestly dont know how to help. Anyone with more experience with Uber Eats have any ideas?

It sucks but there isn't much you can do. Even if you did find the person it was suppose to go to, I doubt Uber Eats would allow their drivers to pick up from a private address and deliver to another house. Food tampering and whatnot.

Just drop it in a cardboard box, tape it up, and mail it to Uber headquarters in San Francisco, California. Theyll reimburse you later.

I'd had this happen before with doordash I just had to throw the food away. They won't come back for the food.

Its yours. They likely aren't allowed to get food that a non employee has handled. The customer will just put in that they delivered to the wrong house and be refunded almost immediately. They'll likely need to reorder, but that's part of the gamble.

The restaurant isn't out the cost of the food and the driver will just get dinged for their fuck up. So no harm really done.

Man, that sucks. I just noticed on the receipt that there is a kid order on it as well. Based on the name and that there is a kid order, this is likely a mom with a kid. Absolutely sucks that I cant find out if it is a neighbor somewhere nearby.

Just eat it.

Yeah that's on the driver. They aren't going to waste their time to come back and throw the food away for you. I'd wait an hour then open it up if it was me.

The receipt says it is Pad See Ew with Tofu and a kid sized chicken fried rice.

I've been on the receiving end of this a few times (drivers always get my street and the one behind me confused somehow/their app gps sucks at times).

As the costumer all that can be done is calling the delivery service and getting refunded. The driver does get a strike to their account. As for the person that got the food just eat it. The drivers aren't going to come back for it/they aren't allowed to once food leaves their hands.

*One time when they screwed up and dropped off my bojangles breakfast to my neighbor across the street I just quickly ran to their porch and yoinked it back, lol*

If you've had the food for 40 minutes the person already got their refund and either reordered or just went to sleep for dinner. The rice was also probably just a side dish not an actual meal for a kid.

Oh damn I love when places hook up the fried rice. I see the eggs, nice amount of onions, and good chicken it looks like.

(Its stupid how many places down my way have basic ass fried rice with nothing in it. Just be like, yellow rice with no other kinds of vegetables in it).

Me, my parents, siblings or nieces and nephews would absolutely obliterate like 2 quarts or more depending on how many is eating of nothing but roast pork, beef, chicken, or house special fried rice for dinner. Like we would usually get a side order of chicken wings, but the actual fried rice would be the main dish. I could believe the rice was meant for an adult and like 2 kids.

i had that happen with doordash before while i was at work. it was mcdonalds or some kind of breakfast food left at my door. by time i got home it was sitting out there at least 5 hours so i just threw it away.

another time got a walmart order left at my porch so that stuff i kept. had no name/address or anything on it. so it was doordash or one of those companies that also do store deliveries as well. left it out there awhile and it wasn't really anything good. a cheap mirror and a cheap lamp. ended up giving the lamp to my mom so that worked out at least.

Pretty good. The place is like 20 minutes away, so I dont think Id ever go there. Fried rice was good and the other thing was pretty tasty.

Oddly, I had today off and I met a friend for lunch. While I was using the washroom, he paid the bill (and wouldnt take any money), so I somehow ate for free all day.

We live right where the street switches from north to south (so we live at X north Whatever St, but a block away is X south Whatever St) so especially in the couple years following Covid mixups would happen somewhat frequently

Anyway one time we went out in the morning to find an uber eats delivery has been left on our doorstep the night before. It has been ~0F overnight so the food was frozen solid so we brought it in and ate it lol. It was momo and lamb curry from a local Nepali place we had never tried, and it was amazing.

I didn't want it the only other option would be to eat it. In this particular scenario it had sat outside all night because if they knocked I didn't hear and my doorbell doesn't work and I don't plan to have it fixed.
