Almost assuredly. The show itself is excellent and hits a wide variety of issues (the episode they did on gentrification was also a real standout) but this particular episode was already done and was scheduled to air during the first half of Season 2 which is already out. It was held back with no reasoning and now they're planning to not air it on Disney Channel at all using the election as an excuse. No word if not airing on Disney Channel also means Disney Plus as well.

Anyway I only watched the first episode and it was pretty good. Couldn't tell you about anything else but idk. It seems like the epsiode got through to production so it feels odd that they got cold feet randomly

This situation is so discouraging to me.

On one hand, it's a reminder of what everyone already knew - a ton of these companies aren't actually anywhere near as supportive as they try to make themselves look. It's all just a ploy to get people to spend money and it feels so damn soulless.

On the other, "We're pulling this because being pro-gay doesn't seem like a good idea in this political climate" just feels terrifying to me. I do not like the idea of legitimate queer stories being pushed down at all, I don't like the implication that the world is turning more anti-LGBT, and it just sucks to think that things like gay kisses and trans characters and stuff in shows might start getting censored because of this stuff.

Just a really shitty situation all around. I mentioned it in another thread shortly after the election, but the entire election situation really preyed on this specific anxiety of mine in that it felt like the world was becoming a bit less accepting, and stuff like this is making that worse.

It reminds me of back when I was a kid, a filler episode of DBZ was cut shortly after the 9-11 attacks because it has Gohan rescuing people from a burning high wise as the Great Saiyaman.

So this feels more like the subject material of the shows plot might be a bit too touchy given who just got elected.

Wait, really? This is literally actually happening at San Jos State University (in CA) right now. A volleyball player filed a lawsuit, claiming one if her teammates is trans. Multiple teams have forfeited, refusing to play against SJSU. Its been a big story in the sports news here lately.

Perhaps coincidentally and perhaps not, SJSU has a well-regarded animation program.

Disney wasn't told to do this. They did it themselves. They weren't cancelled. Theres no administration in office to even make them do this.

Theres no line at all yet, besides what Disney wants on their streaming platform. If they plan to take down their lgbt content there then it will become obvious what they're doing, but they have released content featuring lgbt characters as recently as 2 weeks ago in animation on the site. So again it's not likely to expect a pattern yet

The 80s and 90s had very tight leashes, so the artists had to learn to be very creative. This often resulted in a more well thought out product. It's a silver lining, at least.
