If she was elected through a proper primary and chose Shapiro as VP she would have had a much higher chance. Running an abbreviated campaign with a buffoon like Walz as VP was always going to end in disaster.

I think it'll be a while before we dig out what happened to make Harris underperform to such a massive degree, but 2 very big potential factors are:

  • Being a woman
  • Being black

Like, her campaign lost a lot of steam over time, but she never fumbled anything. Walz was a good pick, she completely decimated Trump in the debate, and for some reason people just didn't want to support her today.

Hillary already confirmed it but this erases any doubt that the USA will never vote in a woman president.

She really should have just accepted conservative endorsements and moved on as is. What she was doing was running on the losers of the opposite party. What were the losers of a cult going to realistically do? When struggling with the Palestine issue she gleefully screams to the world her endorsement of war criminal Dick Cheney.

I think a lot of people stayed home.

And remember how the optimism is gone after she makes it clear that she will continue Biden's bad policies, especially on supporting Israel's genocide?

They don't care about projections. They only care about the condition of their wallet under the current president. Reminder that Obama's approval rating went from 88% to 48% in a mere month because he hadn't fixed the global recession yet.

Theres three major takeaways:

1) shes not as right-wing as trump
2) shes a woman
3) shes a minority

in fact, point #2 might be such a major issue in some peoples minds that it might even be a bigger issue overall than #1 on that list

either way, america is a right-wing shithole and is only ever going to go further and further right until its too late to recover

Biden committing to 1 term would have definitely helped but the wild degradation he had over the last year was pretty hard to predict. Usually the incumbency is an advantage.

For better or for worse, American voters are not the most rational bunch. The polling data showed Harris lost majority of the Arab American support that Biden got in 2020.

She could have lied about her stance on Palestine but she decided to try to fight Trump on who is more pro-Israel. She got what she deserved.

I don't know if there's anything she could have done. The data we have suggests the main things Trump won on were the economy and immigration.

Because even though inflation was caused more by the guy they just elected, and thanks to Biden America had less inflation than almost every industrialized nation, people are mad that prices are high. And they want to punish the president who is in power now.

Also because even though immigrants objectively improve the economy and lower the crime rate, even though we are a (supposedly) proud nation of immigrants where almost everyone has a story in their family history about their ancestors coming to America and living the American dream, it doesn't matter. The irrational fear of immigration refuses to go away.

I don't think her cozying up to Republicans moved the needle much either way. I don't think taking a harder stance against Israel would have helped either. Sure, she might have gotten better turnout, but now it looks like Trump might have gotten more votes because she didn't support Israel enough. I don't see the extra turnout making up for all that.

Basically she lost because the democrats had the bad luck of being in charge during four terrible years, and because America still has a lot of bigotry.
