When I shoot a thing, It should die

But instead it just stands there waiting for me to pop it open like a pinata to spew rainbow vomit loot everywhere, and I am punished for not engaging with this awful mechanic by being deprived of ammo

I don't think I can play this. This isn't Doom. Visually and mechanically it just doesn't feel Doom to me. The way it's designed is the opposite of everything Doom was about.

I made the right choice of waiting for it to be free

If you are scrounging for ammo in Eternal you are playing the game wrong.

I liked Eternals gameplay loop. It just wasnt a traditional game of the genre that Doom 2016 was. Which is what I prefer.

its a step down from 2016. marauders kill the flow p hard. and the dlc is just too much imo. i love the game but i was still a bit disappointed with the direction it took

You don't really get Ammo for Glory kills, you get them for chainsawing them in half, that's what the random Imps and Zombies around the map are for.

But you don't ever have to really scrounge for ammo. You just have to use the chainsaw often. So yeah, you do have to play the way the game wants you to play. And that's understandably not for everyone.

I like it, but I'd be content if Doom went back to being a traditional shooter.

It's on like 1HP when that happens, just shoot with practically anything and it will die. You get health back and you charge your blood punch if you glory kill it, but you never HAVE to do this.

Saying someone is bad at games when giving valid criticisms that have nothing to do with difficulty would be a Vance level insult to begin with.

There are a lot of things I didn't like about Eternal, but the gameplay isn't one of them.

I didn't play Eternal because I felt it was 2016 but for more skilled players I actually never finished 2016 :( but I got the flow and liked the glory kills. It actually wasn't as gruesome as I thought it'd be.

I just played on base "Hurt me Plenty" in 2016. I really shoulda finished that. Is Eternal that different.

TC needs to git gud

Also TC should probably be hyped for The Dark Ages since its gameplay is going back to classic-style gameplay that feels heavier and more straightforward

if you are struggling with ammo, that is a skill issue and you are bad at the game.

Game design issue, not a skill issue

Apart from enemies having weaknesses, which is great and adds complexity to combat, it's basically identical to the previous game.

has the overton window shifted enough on this? can i say i only like the originals and not what the "new" Doom is?

You get ammo in Doom Eternal by chainsawing enemies. You don't have to stagger them first.

I got a new laptop and I need to try some games that actually make the gpu and grphx card do things. The most demanding game I ran on it so far was probably Enderlillies.

I should get Doom 2016 or Eternal. I have 2016 on my PS4.

i also don't like how shadow warrior 3 sabotaged itself and said fuck you to the existing fans by trying to chase doom eternal's success

More or less my thoughts. I thought 2016 had the stronger gameplay experience. Having armor on a whim is nice, but it was a little too many things to juggle for my liking. But the marauders... just to hell to whoever came up with that idea. A total buzzkill every time that shows up.

Just play another game.

The beginning of Eternal was a rough start for me as well. I didn't enjoy the game until a few levels in when the combat started to click a little, and a couple of the upgrades had been obtained. The game after that point was semi-fun.

2016 is the better game.

Just play Ultrakill and forget it exists

but ultrakill is fuck ugly

just play blues brothers 2000 on N64
