Most of LotR, really. At least for the vision of it that Jackson went for. There's plenty of room to criticize the casting as not lining up with the book's portrayals, but for the movies Jackson made and the decisions he made in adapting the books, most of the casting was spot-on.

RDJ as Tony Stark.

Came in to say this. RDJ basically was Tony Stark.

Though I feel like some people in this topic have different ideas of what "perfect casting" means. To me, it means that a specific character has been previously established in a different medium or prior works, and then a new actor comes into the role and perfectly matches who that character was supposed to be, or how they're usually seen. To the point where sometimes you're not sure the character and the actor are separate people at all.

Just being really, really good at a role isn't necessary "perfect casting" to me. It's just great casting, or a great performance. Perfect casting, to me, means there needs to already be a standard of character to compare to, and the actor fits that mold perfectly.

So Will Smith basically playing an amped up version of himself on Fresh Prince doesn't count, because that's him creating and establishing a new character rather than playing an existing one. While roles like Jack Sparrow or Shrek - where the actor literally changed multiple lines and forced their own idea of what the new character should be - is less about the casting and more about an actor giving an iconic and memorable performance.

Perfect casting is the sort of thing you get when a character from a book or a game is getting adapted, and someone asks you "Who do you think should play them?", and pretty much everyone online has the same answer - and then the studio actually casts that person. Sort of like how, when Game of Thrones first started getting announced, and pretty much all of the book fans online immediately went "They should totally cast Peter Dinklage", and then they cast Peter Dinklage.

This really doesnt match up with the rest of your post. RDJ put a very different spin on Tony Stark and now hes more like that in comics. Its like the James Bond thing with Connery.

maybe Tommy Lee Jones as K in MiB

maybe not quite the best, just a really good one that I can think of, and I was thinking maybe that was not "an original character", but maybe it is

for original characters, as already mentioned, Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd probably have to be the single best

Which is also why Matthew Lillard worked as Shaggy and Patrick Stewart worked as Professor X. When those were announced, I could immediately see it. RDJ also made sense, but his previous roles weren't quite as strong a fit. However, when I was watching Thir13en Ghosts, I was thinking Lillard would make a great Shaggy.
