Abomasnow. Terrible typing along with slow speed, but I loved using an Ice team in Gen 4 in online matches.

Mightyena I always like the "dog" pokemon I guess its probably better after the physical special split but it was so bad in gen 3 and I didn't understand why

Araquanid. Honestly, most of the fully evolved bugs.

Yeah, it sucks because Mabosstiff is basically what Mightyena shoulda been but its design is worse

Araquanid. Honestly, most of the fully evolved bugs.

Fwiw Araquanid can really lay down the butt in rain, and it's great under trick room.

I'll add to this list, Houndoom. Dark fire is such a dope typing but bro is pretty outclassed by most other things.

Most Pokemon games are so easy, the stats don't really matter. I use whatever Pokemon speaks to me, regardless of performance since it doesn't really matter. I'm not playing competitively.

True, but he's got decent SpAtk and OK speed. He can Flamethrower and Dark Pulse his way through games just fine. He's in every playthrough I do if available.

I nearly said Lickitung, but he's an excellent HM slave, and I have used him.

So my pick is Jumpluff. Love that Pokmon for various reasons, but he's absolutely useless in game.

My favourite Pokmon is Meditite but the evolution sucks.

Chimecho

ive had one since gen 4 and its always in my team.

It could certainly benefit from an evolution.

Back when Gen 3 was still in pre-release and little information was generally known, I thought Chimecho was pronounced "chemico" like it was trying to sound like "chemical" and that it's tail was a sword with blood on it. I also thought it was going to be a Mythical since the Pokemon were listed in really weird order and Chimecho was the last one on the list.

Edit: After a little searching, the weird order I'm remembering where Chimecho is last on the list is actually the order they're in from the Cries list, which was probably presumed to be the order of the Pokemon in the Pokedex.

This is a thing people say but I don't believe it. Who is going to use something absurdly weak like onix for anything but a challenge run?

Parasect too. Really any grass/bug pokemon, those weaknesses are rough

I like Nidoking and Raichu.

Well, I'm always going to use the evolved form but I've probably used mid Pokemon without knowing. For example, I used Electroc and Seadra in Lets Go and a google search tells me they are kind of mid, but feel free to correct me.

It was super niche, but Leech Seed / Dry Skin / Leftovers Parasect lived for fucking ever in Gen 5

My favorite pokemon is Delibird... but it is one of the worst pokemon to use in the game

I love Exploud, but Normal type just tends to not really be any good.

OK, the grossly overlevelled Charizard with 4 Fire moves was doing all the work, but still . . .

Alolan Meowth, Lechonk, Magikarp, Feebas, Trubbish, and probably a bunch of other unevolved dudes.

Also Smeargle, but it can at least make a decent capture specialist and the funniest HM user in games with HMs.

Little me was so excited to catch an Onix, and then I just couldn't figure out why it kept doing so little damage. I just couldn't comprehend "Oh, this thing actually sucks."

You're thinking too small my dude. Is Onix a powerhouse that can drop one hit KO's on neutral targets? No.

But what he is, is a surprisingly fast defensive wall with taunt and stealth rocks.

Yeah, but there are plenty of other Pokemon like that that can actually break through a wet paper bag, is the thing.

Any Pokemon can have use somewhere. The thing is that, for a lot of them, where they have use is something a lot of other Pokemon do better.

EDIT: Though I'm now picturing Brock's Onix trying to break through a wet paper bag, and recoiling once it realizes it's wet.

And they were never heard from again.

I really liked the concept of Palafin, but I decided against using it since the gimmick just felt really clunky to use in a singleplayer setting.

Furret and Magcargo are so bad I frequently find they both struggle in-game, let alone in competitive

I agree and that's the beauty of (early) Pokemon games. Luvdisc sucks ass but is good for heart scales. Zigzagoon isn't anything to write home about, but you better believe when you need an HM, it's your guy.

Wishiwashi is perfect. If only if had better hp.

Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff.

Also wish Umbreon stayed more useful.

Oh, absolutely. Early Pokemon is incredible. I got through a good 75% of RSE with Mightyena, and I didn't regret a single second of it.

Exploud actually did make it to my final team there. He's actually pretty good for in-game, since he has pretty balanced stats and there isn't much that actually negates Normal. I just recognize Normal type doesn't really have any place beyond the main game, unfortunately.

Magcargo can actually be pretty decent, but the 4x weakness to Water and Ground, when those tend to be quite prevalent in game (Hikers, Fishermen/Swimmers, etc.) is just... Ouch.

Fwiw, Exploud ages like wine imo. Boomburst being added to it's arsenal, as well as Scrappy makes it a decently compelling wall breaker

Ooh, really? Niiiice. Gonna have to look into this.

Several of the Pokemon I tend to like have a clear cut place use, like Machamp. Exploud was one of those ones I just really liked that not a lot of other people seemed to, so it's not really been easy to keep up on its usage potential.

Used to be good but have been powercrept pretty badly in more recent gens:

Chandelure
Ampharos
Articuno
Drapion
Diancie
Gallade
Porygon-Z

All of these are in my top 20 favorite Pokemon of all time (or in Masquerain's case, its pre-evolution Surskit is, but I really like Masquerain itself too)

Literally I don't even consider the stats for a standard first time run. I just go with novelty.

Delcatty/Skitty, I really want normalize to be a good ability but it's never gonna happen.

They should make it so that it acts as a combination of its original effect plus Scrappy so that you don't get completely walled by a Ghost type.

Scrappy would still have a case use because it would also affect Fighting type moves. This just makes it so that Delcatty can actually hit Ghost types even with the ability.

Not saying it has to be Super Effective or anything, just... if you're gonna give Delcatty an ability make all of its moves one type, don't make it so that an entire separate type completely blocks your Delcatty from playing in the sandbox.
