They battle you till you and all your pokemon faint. That's kinda sick. They won't stop till you yourself hit the ground, unable to continue. Bad guys have your unconscious body lie at their feet.

I don't think a gun is comparable in danger to a fire breathing dragon. Or any of the Pokemon that can produce all manner of damaging projectiles at will. It probably also wouldn't even be able to harm a lot of pokemon. Basically guns are obsolete in a world with tameable monsters.

If you had Pikachu defending Omaha Beach we'd all be speaking German right now, if they carried guns it wouldn't make a difference.

Imagine you only have 1 pokemon, and you've never battled before... you're like 40 years old or something

You are walking around the bad part of town, yaknow, the two tiles behind the pokemart when someone mugs you with a Muk.

Your brave little level 3 Lillipup jumps out and loses........ then you discover something, you yourself begin to pass out! Wuuuuuut! noooooooo; and when you come to you are back at home and half your money is gone.

You tell the police that you think you just got robbed and explain the situation, and they laugh at you!

So, poor and disgruntled you leave your cute baby lillipup at home and take a voltorb to work... the commute it expensive and you aren't getting paid enough to not just have the voltorb explode in the parking lot to magically warp YOU home

In the first game you only lost money to random field trainer battles.
I don't recall for certain if you lost money losing in gym trainer battles.

You don't actually pass out. You just rush to the nearest (or last visited) Pokmon hospital. The money lost was wagered.

Yeah, they don't play against the rules so 1. Why do they even bother with matches? and 2. Why should a trainer, who has everything to lose, follow the rules?

It's like robbing a bank then driving at the speed limit while obeying traffic signs in a get away car.

Tbh I always had the impression that the games were events that adults set up so kids could have a good time because that's the only way they could stay internally consistent most of the time. Villain teams were just adults fucking around playing antagonists, gym leaders and champions intentionally play at a lower level to match newer trainers (I feel like this might have been canon in the anime?), etc

it gets harder to logically justify when pokemon are doing reality warping shit in like sun/moon though

gyms about have to do that, i think, otherwise they don't really make sense

what if you start at like endgame town? your level 10 rat just isn't gonna do anything against their level 60 omega tiger boat dragon, so then what? you have to travel from your endgame town to starter town?

The "some pokemon are gods" thing really felt like the lore getting out of hand. Until at least gen 3 legendaries were just "really strong animals". Now it's basically the Japanese Cthulhu mythos. But the characters still don't treat it as such, pokemon are still animals.
