I need to see cross-tabs for this because I refuse to accept any potential reality in which the stats infer that Triple Triad is the more popular pick among the 18-29 crowd. We need to see the youth vote turn up big-time here to really turn things around on a generational basis, a time-release revolution oh who am I kidding there arent any under-30s anywhere near this board in 2024

personally I'm flummoxed at the "played QB but haven't played TT" votes. People who just play new games so never played FF8 (or the remaster a few years back)? maybe people who only play the FF7 universe of games, my kind of people...

0 interest in FF8 at all so Im in the QB camp but no TT

Queen's Blood. It going full Yugioh out of nowhere was great

I like the simplicity and quickness of TT for a mini game. I dont like the way rules spread in ff8, but I do like how it is in ffxiv. Queens blood is a fun game but for mini game it got a bit complex as it went on.

they made an entire MMO around playing Triple Triad it's so good

Pretty much. I was never really interested in FF8, otherwise I would've tried it by now. But 7 was always interesting.

I felt like at least for a while, Queen's Blood is too much in favor of the player not starting (never you). You later get cards to circumvent it better, but it's a flaw to me. Triple Triad has all sorts of trash rules but at its best it might be better overall, Queen's Blood has more potential.

I have never liked Triple Triad and thought people were insane for loving it so much.

That said I agree with the criticism that it's not well put together as an actual game in that it's not symmetrical, it's unbalanced, etc. It would not work as a multiplayer experience the way TT can. But as a single-player minigame experience it's great. I would like to see them iterate QB into a PvP-friendly version, though it might just end up like Gwent and completely fall apart.

QB was never meant to be multiplayer so it's pretty cool that they made it work so well for single player. The QB puzzles are the best example of that.

If you want a multiplayer one, play Marvel Snap.

The QB board not being symmetrical is great. I'd rather there be a contested center than have it be a side vs side thing.

I hate that there are so many cards with only left-facing AoEs because they're largely useless

It'd be nice if you didn't always have to start on the left so you can get more use out of those cards

I found this strange as well. Every time I saw a card that gives pips to the left or does damage to the left I'm like... welp, this is completely useless unless I'm doing a dumb destroy your own cards deck.

I really enjoy Queen's Blood, but after the first couple chapters, like 90% of the cards you get are focused around making destroy decks so I wish there was a bit more variety in that.

I stayed with my fast smothering style deck until the end and enjoyed that much more than the destroy style. But yeah it was clear they preferred destroy a lot more.

The only match that my deck really struggled with was the last one. It was a great challenge though and the special card really synergized with my deck.

I'm guessing they wanted to put more focus on the destroy decks because it forces you to engage with the game more.

I played a fast smothering deck as well and the game would be over in about 30secs to a minute. I'm guessing they wanted a lot of more back and forth which is why there's so many destroy cards.

I have a very strange version of the last match because I somehow utterly annihilated the opponent and Ive not heard anything similar from others - not yet, anyway.

That said, Im hardly some QB pro; I did struggle at times elsewhere. So, yeah. Odd bit of great luck.

Yeah, I wouldn't say I was great at the game, but I won the last match on the first try. I did eventually switch to a destroy deck because it felt like the game wanted you to move in that direction, and it was super effective in that match.

There's a lot of luck. I think I tried 8 or 9 times, in the winning match I won pretty hard. There's a good bit of snowballing in the game which is not ideal for a long-lasting game. But as a side game it makes it pretty fun.

You can always pass on the first turn to force your opponent to play first. So actually, you always have full control over who goes first lol.
