I think Haley actually made a big mistake (for her) by telling them to stop, especially using the phrase cease and desist. It only makes her look out of touch and gives them more attention. She should have just ignored it.

Just the compete disconnect is trying to tell a PAC what to do is hilarious.

I'm theory the only reason what PACs do is allowed is because they are NOT affiliated with the candidate. (Even though we assume they coordinate with the candidate much more than they are legally supposed to, but that's hard to police)

My grandmother on my father's side is Jewish, which makes Dad Jewish but not me. I believe grandma never lived in Israel though.

Why be religious at all though?

I ask as a raised Seventh Day Adventist turned basically atheist.

The short version is cause I like it.

Even back when I was Christian, I went to church more than basically everyone in my family.

I like to sing in public places, while not being great at singing, and religion is a good outlet for that.

I've bought scholarly heavily footnoted versions of the Bible to read through, and consume lots of scholarly talks and interviews on youtube.

It's also worth noting that if your only experience with religion is Christianity, you probably have a very distorted view of what religion overall tends to be. Christianity primarily tries to control what you believe--which is actually rarely the primary goal of most religions. Most religions, including Judaism and Islam, are much more interested in dictating behaviour--e.g. recite fixed prayers X times per day, eat ethically, observe certain holidays, fast on certain days. This is why something like Confucianism can be considered a religion--Confucianism being considered a religion really confused me when I was 14 cause Confucianism straight up doesn't have a god or much of a mythology--it's just a list of ethical rules, and if your only exposure to religion is Christianity, yeah, that doesn't sound like "religion". But in the context of broader knowledge of religion it makes perfect sense--a list of behavioural rules is pretty close to the main focus of most religions.

And yeah, Judaism, especially liberal Judaism, really doesn't heavily dictate belief. There's a saying that goes "two Jews, three opinions." My Rabbi is pretty open about not caring if people in his congregation don't believe in god, for example. The line he likes to use with his young students is "you can believe in up to one god". But he does encourage people to observe the Jewish holidays.

That's fair. I spent a whole lot of time in my teens/early 20's expanding my knowledge of religion in general, which is what really led me to being an atheist. It honestly sounds like you embody the true beliefs behind religion more so than most religious people I've ever dealt with which I can truly respect as a person that no longer believes.

Cannon's dismissing of the case is being appealed by DOJ.

1/6 case is still ongoing but thanks to SCOTUS it has been seriously hamstrung and beyond that the delay will push it well past the election.

GA case IIRC the GA Supreme Court decided to fuck with it and has also caused it to be delayed way past the election by accepting an appeal from Trump and pausing the proceedings until whenever the fuck they decide to rule on it.

Edit: For the sake of completeness:

NY Criminal Case: Sentencing got moved into September (want to say 18th going just by memory) as Merchan gave time for both sides to give their input on how the SCOTUS immunity ruling affects the case. It's not impossible SCOTUS fucked this one and could force a mistrial - we'll see.

NY Civil Case: Waiting on Trump's appeal. The bond agreement he got stipulated that both parties had to be ready to go when the appeals court's next session begins and I think we're coming up on that - August or September IIRC again from memory.
