Lucky here. Got her on my second 10-pull

I took a 10 pull on the cop since I was 85 from S 50/50.

Got a single Nicole merge.

Ellen is the only real attack character I've spent time with since launch.

Paying with Zhu feels like an entirely different game now.

That's how I feel now having an attack character who isn't Anton! (Not that I don't love my bro)

Even moreso, using Nicole over Soukaku here is such a difference. The time they spend on the field isn't even CLOSE.

Outta cash, it gonna grind anymore of it until LK 50. Just gonna start working on drive farming until then now that I've got double gold guaranteed.

Well I got my 6 Bens way faster than I thought lol, and then some which it looks like it doesn't give anything really for getting more than 6? Maybe there was a bit more of a refund and I didn't notice. Also ended up getting Zhu Yuan without even hitting my guaranteed S Rank pull, so I still have some polychrome left over for future pulls whenever I want some.

Kinda funny though, I got 8 Bens in total but 0 Nicole lol

Scraped together enough polys for another multi after finishing the last few character quests and managed to snag Zhu only 40 pulls into the banner. That was a nice surprise after the struggle to get Ellen.

It refunds the roll but does not refund the RNG to my knowledge. So it is still a net negative.

I think this is some bad information? Getting anything other than encrypted master tapes from the residual signal shop is generally considered to be an opportunity cost against having a resource on-hand to help you secure pity on a desired limited character. You'll eventually have all the weapons and agent copies from the shop just as a consequence of continuing to roll on the standard banner with free tapes over time.

There's certainly an argument to be made of the value of bumping up your account by sacrificing a set amount of rolls to get one early, but I'd say being able to guarantee a limited character is far more valuable.

It's funny that Zhu is getting all this when Ben had the first canonical fat ass in the pre-release versions. They might have taken out this dialogue for the final release though, which is a shame.

This is not consistently true on any reasonable timescale, and probably one of the biggest misconceptions about Mihoyo games that goes around. I have been playing Genshin for almost 3 years (mostly f2p, besides a cpuple of welkins) and still am missing C6s of important 1.0 characters like Bennett and Xingqiu. I have maybe 5 out of 10 standard weapons and thats with me being very lucky to not get any dupes. They just don't give out many Standard pulls, and you usually can't guarantee a 4* you want is going to be on a limited banner you want to pull on. People claim it's a bad long-term play, but in the long term the value of 7/30 wishes is much lower, you're skipping more banners and hoarding pulls, and you wind up with sooooo much of this special shop currency. Buying the sure bets is good in the short term and can be really good in the long term too, but you run the risk of getting dupes later, which isn't always as awful as it sounds for the weapons if you wouldn't mind having two copies of the one you're buying.

Of course the safest thing you can do is buy enough wishes to hit a pity on a limited banner, but because it's completely pointless to buy extra pulls otherwise they're way more flexible than people say they are.

I suppose that all makes sense - like I said, there's definitely an argument there! I haven't played Hoyo's other stuff besides HI3 which is completely its own animal, so the insight is helpful. I'll keep that all in mind once I'm swimming in enough of the currency to even consider picking up a weapon.

More short term though, that might change my position on blowing some of it to pick up my first copy of Lucy. Assuming ZZZ keeps the cadence of two new S-ranks per patch, I suspect the effectiveness of A-ranks will fall off compared to Genshin or Star Rail.

If its anything like Star Rail and Genshin the A characters in the shop wont ever be updated either

This is my plan, also I could be wrong but every single one of Lucy's mindscapes looks impactful to me? I've never seen something like that before. Even her talent buffs get her closer to her buff's cap which, theoretically, would let you build her for damage. Idk, game is too new but I'd want a more in-depth opinion on her.

My suspicion is there will be less falloff than star rail but you never know. Piper should be our first real indicator, she's getting a lot of hype atm but Jane Doe will likely just be a straight upgrade over her. Anby's also getting creeped in 1.1, but she's just ok in her role so I'd expect a major boost there anyways.

I think some have a really good shot at sticking around, though. Lucy, Nicole, maaaaybe Soukaku depending on future ice supports. Nicole in particular feels slept on, she's got grouping, def shred, and a quick assist that goes off lightning fast. Feels super good even at C0 in my nekomata team. I fully expect a "NICOLE IS BROKEN???" youtube cycle now that people are getting copies and playing her with Zhu Yuan.

Soukaku's biggest problem right now is how long her supports take. It's, what, 3-4 seconds on the field to do her chain attack versus Nicole's .5 seconds? You lose valuable time during the stun period. The tradeoff is that Soukaku actually does have decent personal damage she's putting out at that time, while Nicole is just buffing for your hypercarry. Will be curious about how this math shakes out.

Soukaku is really good with Ellen at least

Yes, the additional Ice buffs have them glued together, it just raises some questions for her as a general choice pick.

Of course, if Katana Fox Girl in her faction stays Ice, I doubt Soukaku will be going anywhere anytime soon.

I think it's tradeoffs, Soukaku's buff is a massive attack boost that also lasts forever, so in exchange for her fieldtime you then want to swap to a character that stays on the field for a long time, maybe even post stun. Nicole's buff is super short and best used on characters like Nekomata and Zhu Yuan that want to unload everything during the stun or assist period.

Got Grace from the banner. I dunno about this. She is Anomaly but I've got extensive coverage for Electric, Belobog, and in one case Electric Belobog already.

Grace is extremely good with every other electric unit in the game so I assure you she's not redundant. Grace/Rina/X is the strongest team you can make without a limited banner character

My resources are spread extremely thin across this roster. Most of the time I can't do much more than character level 40, and maybe weapon level 40. Maybe IK40 will make the energy use more efficient...

Energy gets more efficient at 40 but costs go up a ton. Focus on a core of 3 and then expand to a different team of 3. Don't level anything you're not sure about past 30.

What other s ranks do you have in your roster to work with?

Oh you have tons of options then. Tbh I think it's more important to get two strong teams first, brute force as much as possible, then worry about coverage. If Soldier 11 is your main it's probably just worth getting Lucy from the shop.

Grace might not be a huge priority for you then, but she will open up a team with your Rina and Anton, and you can just sub Soukaku in on the maid team. Piper's the best physical A-rank currently, and Grace goes well with her, but you also have maid backup for Corin so it's up to you. You can also wait on phys if you plan on going for Jane Doe, people expect her and Grace to be strong together.

I'm so interested in next patch from a gameplay standpoint - Qingyi and Jane will give us our first taste of what power creep might look like when compared with Anby and Piper, then Seth will give us an idea of how Hoyo envisions defenders fitting into the meta since right now we really just have Ben to draw conclusions.

Personally hope other defenders keep Ben's "counterplay for X benefit" aspect since parrying/counterattacking feels so damn good. (Also maybe some or all of this info is already out there due to leaks, but I haven't seen any of it!)

Damn, is Qingyi the next banner character? I'm in trouble. Completely blew all my polys trying to get Officer Onee-san.

If they follow the HSR pattern, we should have drop .marketing for the 1.2 characters in 1-2 weeks. Don't know if us being in 1.0 affects that though.

Characters in this game in general are way too good. Definitely going to result in some tough choices down the road! I'm already totally unsure how I'm going to pull in 1.1 - probably depends on team synergy, accompanying A ranks (plus which banner has Seth) and who the 1.2 characters turn out to be.
