It has a 59% on Steam because dudes pay $9.99 for it just so they can drop their angry review from 2012.

easily one of the top games on Xbox 360 and the only Halo game I ever loved
on the other hand they botched the PC version pretty bad I saw a streamer attempt to play it not too long ago and it glitched out to the point where entire missions had to be replayed multiple times because the glitches hindered progress, so I can fully understand if the vastly inferior PC version gets hated as it seems to deserve it --- Kill the legs first, that's an ironclad battle tactic! ... TC did you actually play Halo 3, Reach, and 4 around the time those launched? Cuz the quality between the 3 is very different. TL;DR at the bottom Halo 2&3 was a content rich, almost universally loved game that AAA devs dreamed of having back then and still today. Community engagement was at a all time high. Then CoD:Modern Warfare 2 came out and changed the gaming landscape, mainly for the worst Reach came out as Bungie's last Halo game and put in some of CoD like mechanics, like loadouts and selectable abilities. Not the worst thing, but the way it was implemented in Multiplayer wasn't very popular, and with the Armor Lock Ability, was extremely unpopular. That ability alone slowed the games pace down greatly, almost doubling the time for a common firefight. This vs CoDs nigh instant TTK was not a good look The Maps were middling at best. A lot of them came from forge world, which made it all look the same. Also there was no mid-match joining, so having people leave a game meant less players fighting in a giant map, slowing the game further, and if they left after that point, they would get penalized. Reach was a good game marred by a few bad choices, however it was fatal to release what was seen as the worst Halo game at the time vs CoD best. 343 jumps in and sorta fixes a few things... A few years later and CoD Fever has been set, and numerous game devs are trying to copy its success, even outside FPSs. ========== Halo 4 comes out, and what does it do? Campaign wise, its at best unneeded for what was supposed to be a good ending for the series. The new series of enemies, the Promenthans, are super generic robotic enemies compared to familiar and somewhat varied Covenant troops, who bantered, had unique weapons and vehicles. There's only 3 kinds of Promethean enemies,2 of which were bad. The main Promethean knights were basically basic bitch robot Elites that had the ability to teleport away. At no point were they fun to fight. Watchers were assist bots mainly there to revive the knights. A enemy that can escape without penalty + enemy that can revive = dumb on high difficulty. Didn't help that you fight them in like 5/8 levels, 2 almost exclusively. The levels themselves were either good or mid, but never great. Multiplayer wise, this game was ass. Copied CoD wholesale and added killstreaks, which were RNG af. 7 kills and you'd get Promethean grenades (the worst nades in all of gaming) or the choice of three power weapons. The DMR dominated cuz it could hit p much anyone at any range, faster than the other 3 rifles. Vehicle play was the worst it has ever been, in a series that consistently had some of the best vehicle play in a FPS. People would often switch to Plasma Pistol & Nades upon death to revenge kill any vehicle. Combine that with DMR and vehicles were weakened death magnets. Halo 4 maps and modes was half of what Halo 1/2/3 had at launch, and most of them sucked. Spartan ops was a repetitive grind and was cancelled after 1 season. Launch month and the DLC was handled poorly. ========== TL;DR Halo 4 was a hype sucking train wreck that did not improve on anything the previous games established, and tried to copy CoD during its limelight. Best way I can describe it is if Halo 3 = Super Metroid, then Halo 4 is Other M. Ultimately a boring and unnecessary sequel to a beloved game. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Cool in concept, but not in execution, at least for Halo 4. Crawlers were simple but fun. Knights and Watchers can go to hellKnights at least were improved substantially in Halo 5, so I think overall the Prometheans were not a bad concept for enemies. Of course Halo 5 did take a step back with Prometheans a bit as well Crawlers lost the ability to crawl on walls for some bizarre reason, which really neutered them as enemies. And Soldiers just weren't very enjoyable to fight. I still would like to see Prometheans return to the series some day. I generally agree with most of what you said about Halo 4 though. I was content with the series ending at Reach. Halo 3 ended perfectly to me. But I get it, this is a hugely lucrative video game franchise, so obviously they're not going to abandon it. And I've enjoyed hundreds of hours of Halo 4, 5, and Infinite since. It's a bit of a toss-up for me as far as which is the worst Halo game though. Obviously 4 and 5 are both heavily flawed in comparison to every other mainline game. Halo 4 has a solid campaign, though of course it pales in comparison to every prior Halo game. And it had mediocre multiplayer, but actually a few decent maps for BTB (which is the only mode I care about anymore). Halo 5 had a worse campaign and a story that is completely disconnected from 4's. It had an especially disastrous launch with no Forge and and no BTB. They never even made actual BTB maps when they did implement it, they were all purely Forge maps. I think almost all of them were made by the community too. But Halo 5's Warzone was pretty fun, the weapon sandbox is vast and fun to use, and the multiplayer is overall much better than 4's. --- Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi <sneaky beeping> ... just to clarify, when the streamer I watched played it, the game seemed to work perfectly fine, it wasn't really until the level where you're on a huge land vehicle and you have a jetpack that it started being broken, not loading waypoints properly or at all, glitching through the ground etc., hindering further progress

Halo 4 is boring and has bullet sponges for enemies on later difficulties (worse than they normally are for the series). Looks really pretty, but that's just not enough for me.

I always thought Halo 4 had some of the best graphics all time for a game. Something about the lighting and aesthetic made the game look beautiful. They really pushed the 360 to its limits, but unfortunately a lot of other stuff suffered. AI was trash. I could unload on an Elite from across a room and hed just stand there and take it. Particle effects and explosions were so bad especially coming from Reach Weapons dropped by dead people would despawn in like 10 seconds so it was a pain finding ammo for stuff Wish they had just gone with the original plan and cooked it for another year to be an Xbox One launch title. But I get why they put it on 360, there were like 75 million sold at that point so way more potential buyers for a $60 game than people wanting to drop $60 plus $500 for the console --- "I like turtles" ... I won't say anything bad about Halo 4, but I will say, as someone who played Halo 3, ODST, and Reach probably about 10k combined hours with friends, we barely played Halo 4 much past the opening mission. We did online for a couple weeks though.
Now there could have been a myriad of reasons why, we all were growing apart, work/life was taking over a majority of our time, and we simply moved on around the same time, but there wasn't much keeping us involved. --- lolAmerica ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'll take no boss fights over shoving Warden Eternal down our throats throughout the entire campaign. But to be fair, Warden Eternal is a decent enough boss in a vacuum. They just really overdid it with his campaign encounters. And Warzone Firefight's bosses were pretty fun, so despite the Warden Eternal issue, I think Halo 5 did a pretty good job there. --- Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi <sneaky beeping> ...
