The show is fine. Episode 2 is hard to judge as an indicator because it's intentionally about some 3rd party character and the main trio is just kind of there.

I will say if this is the actually STRUCTURE of the show moving forward, I don't know if I'll stick with it, but unless I read ahead in the manga I can't say if that's the case one way or another.

On the positive side, I got extremely cut happy this week and dropped several shows, and that wasn't one of them, so it's got something there!

Ascendance is great.

It was still enjoyable. The suicidal depressed main dude brings a lot of comedy to the isekai genre, and I like the two party members he's gathered so far. There were a few legit lol jokes in episode two as well. Joke spoiler the minstrel guy just wanting to play his songs was great. It probably won't be anywhere near my favorite of the season, but it's a solid anime so far. That's pretty high praise from me when talking about an isekai!

Losing Heroines 2 was better than the first, mainly thanks to introducing new characters. Anna's by far the worst member of the cast. Nurse is good times. As expected, animation dropped from best ever to pretty good, but that's fine.

No need to get in a best girl of the season fight just yet, though, they all have the potential.

Plus-Sized Elf is a better show than Losing Heroines because the characters in that get fat from eating too much food and Anna doesn't.

Plus-Sized Elf isn't show though, it's a motion comic.

The war between me and The Elusive Samurai is over. My lack of interest in the actual narrative and setting has won out over the incredible production and jaw dropping animation.

This is not an issue of the show's quality or even the story's, it's just not for me.

That's what I mean when I said I can't imagine it being big, no matter how good the anime is.

Maybe in Japan where they like that sort of thing.

It's getting a huge wave of reprints over there, but yeah not sure how it will translate.

At least I can see the show is definitely good outside of my personal tastes. It's not like Wizard Barristers, where excessive money and talent was being funneled into complete and total worthless dogshit.

....And I just realized that show wasn't popular so people may think that's me talking about the Wizard show I hate this season, but no, Wizard Barristers was an actual show a while back.

Funnily enough not actually on purpose, I needed a mental break halfway through Koyomimimonogatari, so I went and hit the randomizer on one of those sites to nab the first episode of whatever.

Technically I got the second season lol.

But this does seem fun, I will likely keep watching soon enough once I'm finally caught up on Araragi's Bizarre Adventure.

I spent years skipping over every music anime because I loved SIF and Sunshine, but cared so little about the music that I skipped almost all of it, so I figured why get too deep into that rabbit hole.

I'm now realizing, with like 10+ plays on YouTube for every performance in GBC and still watching the end of MyGo episode 10 at least 3 times a week, that I do really want to watch all these music anime, I just don't like Idol music.

Except Snow Halation, for some reason. Probably the game?

I started watching another random anime from my seasonal project, World Conquest Zvezda Plot. After being disappointed by Go Go Loser Ranger, I wanted to see if this other anime about bad guys trying to conquer the world might be better. Well...

"Lincoln had potential. However, his weakness was he couldn't handle bullets."

Holy shit I'm not even one episode in and Zvezda is already amazing.

Zvesda has a lot of problems and fails to live up to its potential. I really love the good bits and gave it a 9/10 anyway, though. Namely, Kate is amazing, and some of the character designs are excellent.

Finished Supermanime S2. Even better than the first! Can't wait for S3.

I tried playing the Atri visual novel, but after an hour I just wasn't feeling it. I was expecting something with a different vibe, I guess. I thought it might be another tearjerker robot VN like Planetarian, but it didn't have those vibes at all. It also could've focused more on deep sea diving aspect. I enjoyed If My Heart had Wings, a VN that focused on building airplanes and really got into the details of it. You could tell a story like that about diving too. Sadly, I got the distinct impression that he only dived to get Atri and they'd never go underwater again. The first hour was just the main dude going back and forth on whether or not he wanted to sell her. Atri herself barely seemed to care what choice he picked, too. She was just a bundle of generic waifu characteristics. I honestly found her more annoying than anything.

Despite that, I still decided to watch the anime. I doubt I'll like the story enough to go through it twice, so I picked the version that's five hours long instead of ten. The anime had quite a few differences from the VN in the first two episodes, but I suppose it's nothing major. I have mostly the same complaints. Atri is shallow waifu-bait, main dude is gloomy to the point of not being fun to watch, and I'm not really feeling the dynamic between them. Even the setting feels half-baked. For a world being slowly flooded, society hasn't broken down like I'd expect it to. He grabbed food from an abandoned supermarket and it was still well-stocked even with junk food like chips. Man, in a real apocalypse some warlord would've locked that place down so fast.

I'll stick with the anime. It's not like I'm hating Atri. It's just firmly in the bottom half of shows I'm watching this season. I expected to like it based on the premise, so I'm kind of sad it isn't working for me at all.

Good. Would be very disappointed if this was it.

Unfortunately, as of episode three, it looks like No Longer Allowed in Another World is going to lose me. I'll keep watching just to see how it handles it, but if this is going to be its tone and focus then it isn't going to be my thing.

It's going to get super edgy and be about Sensei fighting corrupt otherworlders, ugh. Worse yet, I think this first guy is the shitty enslavement type. I don't care if they ultimately subvert the tropes, they're such awful tropes that I can't enjoy them in any capacity.

Oh. So Dead Dead Demons whatever is actually like really good huh.

Was I supposed to start at episode 1 or 0? It seemed like it was supposed to be 1, but the only actual input I can find was from manga readers immediately after watching episode 0 and nothing else.

I'm waiting on Dead Dead until it's over and I can determine where the optimal subtitles are

Seems like most people suggest skipping ep 0.

I had no problem with Crunchyroll subtitles but also it seems like it might be a show better suited to marathoning than weekly watching anyways. Admittedly a bit hard to tell after 1 episode because there's several directions the show could go.

When the show first came out, the subtitles were synced to the dub, so they didn't match when things were being said in Japanese. Maybe that's been fixed now?

There was nothing hugely problematic that prevented me from understanding it, but I can't guarantee I'd notice or care if the timing was a little off. I don't know how to explain it but I think I process subtitles in a way that this sort of issue is more likely to escape me unless it's horrifically off.

I could easily see it still being true though. It did seem like these paid more attention than usual to having things flow naturally for an English speaker which might be a sign they just used the same thing as for the actual dub.

I found subs by someone called 4de that improves on Crunchy's, mostly subbing some of the title cards and stuff.

It is really good though. Oran is awesome.

Odd Taxi was amazing. The characters and banter were high level, all the crime drama and mystery stuff worked out perfectly until the very end, and some of the cool plot twists were inventive and tied everything together.

*And I watched the last 10 minutes of the movie to finish it off nicely*
