That the mechanic in the third boss always gets me I was never good at that kind of puzzle

The Team Rocket push tiles mechanic didn't really frustrate me, but what kept tripping me up with the first boss's doubling up of spreading out his bombs while also doing his slice-widening AoE thing. Never knew where to stand to dodge both.

EW alliance raid coins are useless now, yes. As is any of the brine, twine, shine, or whatever if you had some laying around unused.

You could theoretically use the normal or savage raid items for gearing if you wanted I guess, but probably way simpler to dump poetics for augmented tome gear. The weapons are wholly unnecessary though.

i got two of the zones to rank 2, but man i dont know if im cut out for that grind. I had zero on each of the other two expansions lol. Everything is grayed out

That grind is significantly better than the grind to get 50,000 gems. If you're already trying to level up your characters it makes it easier because you actually feel like you're accomplishing something

Yeah, it's pretty boring.

Feels like something I'll get around to finishing eventually, in between other things. Doesn't help I completed the two zones I really liked first -- don't really want to spend hours in fuckin' zone 5 lmao.

I do plan to do the Shared FATE grind but yeah, it's a drag. So far 1 zone done, picking at a second.

My method for the last two expansions was to aim for about 6 a day, or however many I could squeeze in while waiting in queue, whichever was larger.

Surprised you guys liked the story so much. Most people I've seen in other sites are panning it.
The Normal Raid storyline so far is great though. And the soundtracks for the fights too

a lot of people that dont like it probably havent gotten far enough or gave up before it got good, or theres a subset of people who just hate wuk lamat

I've only seen overwhelming negativity for the MSQ on Reddit. And that's...well, you know...Reddit. Those losers will downvote you for just saying you actually like the story.

Everywhere else, I've seen most opinions ranging from really enjoying it to it being at least serviceable.

It was kind of a mess. Hiroi should not be on MSQ duty ever again, he's better in smaller side stories where he can focus.

Most people don't like Wuk Lamat and have valid reasons for feeling that way. For my part I tried really hard to but it was just TOO much Wuk Lamat. She smothered every other character. They also basically lobotomized Alisaie, like she had almost none of her personality and was just a vehicle to glaze Wuk Lamat.
Wuk Lamat should have sat out the second half. She had nothing to offer but extreme naivety almost to the point of annoyance regarding Sphene. The second half was tailor made for Koana to shine and see firsthand the dangers and pitfalls of unchecked technological progress.

I know nothing about the individual writers or their contributions, so I can't talk to whether this Hiroi person should be on MSQ duty or not, but for the most part, I found the expansion's MSQ to be written fine. It's not competeing with the highest of highs like ShB, but still better than a lot of minor arcs throughout the years.

I could surely nitpick some smaller stuff -- like how most of the Scions are pointless (esp Alisaie, like you said) and are only there to have familiar faces around -- but the important beats all worked for me. The themes of family, and responsibility, and purpose, and death, etc all came across like how they should've imo.

Lamaty'i's character arc served as a sort of vehicle for these themes, and because of that she was definitely there a lot. But I never minded her, cuz I felt they wrote her to be an endearing character that I enjoyed being mentor and "big brother" to. This was her story, and I was fully on board with that.

Add that in with the heavy focus on culture and history -- a part of FF14's world building I've always enjoyed and thought they've been great at -- wrapped into a story marketed as a sort of vacation with your friends through Fantasy Latin America, and you've got an expansion that appeals to me greatly.

I didn't mind the world building but at some point I wanted Wuk Lamat to grow and she never really did. Up until the end she was extremely naive about Sphene and how sometimes someone isn't worth saving or can't be saved and their course is clear.

Maybe it was intentional because our character understood that while she being inexperienced did not. I'm not sure if I'm just coping but I have wondered if it's supposed to show our previous idealism when we were fresh faced compared to now where we knew how that was going to end from the jump.

crafting is a lot different from back when i used to be into it last. Its a lot easier now and collectibles make it pretty effortless, And the gear you get from scripts seems to be fine even without any materia.

Can't recall if I mentioned here. Regarding the story, I fall into the "serviceable" camp. The plot got the job done and I didn't hate Wuk Lamat or the overall beats.

The minute to minute writing and all the little details bothered me all over the place, though. Lots of things missing, understated, or overlooked. Plot points ignored or characters glazed over. There's also a few things that are obvious, giant plot holes, but the expectation (for now) is that the worst of those will be filled in by patch content.

If the person from DT is going to be the primary writer again, they need a heavier hand steering them or better support on details.

I don't get how Fates work sometimes. Like I got to Rank 3 in zone 5, did a couple more Fates after that, but it still says 0/40.

Do I have to end the Fate with x amount of damage dealt or something? Cuz that's getting harder and harder to do with more people populating the zone and the Fates ending before I can even get a couple hits off.

It's been a while, but if I remember right you need to get either a top rank or one of the top couple of ranks for the Fate to count. They do that to keep people from grinding fate levels by diving into Fates that are almost complete and getting credit for doing nothing.

Slowly making my way through, got to level 92 in the MSQ. The first promise and the two headed guy (I'm so bad at names lol) are annoying villians but that feels exactly the way they are intended. I am excited to hopefully give them all the comeupance they deserve and interested in how they ramp up the bad guy shit from here. =P

I also enjoyed making a new outfit with the gear I got from the MSQ reward. XD

Okay I'm not doing it anymore I don't think it's even possible to keep that NPC alive solo

ive never actually done any variant dungeons before.

I managed to get through the first two Variant Dungeons like once each, but they're overall just too damn difficult for me to do solo, and take too much of my time to bother with.
Haven't beat Aloalo Island at all, let alone do all of them 12 times over.

Maybe now that I'm lv100, they might be easier, but idk how difficulty scales like that.

Trying to start the Tank Role Quest, so I'm trying to relearn DRK and why are there so many fucking actions. Compared to DRG or RDM, this is taking up so many hotbar slots it's ridiculous. I feel like they should trim some of this down. I can barely keep track of how things lend into each other.

DRK is weird because it has so many actions but you only regularly use a few of them. It's very simple in practice and you spend most of your time doing the 1,2,3 combo.

This is probably intentional, but I feel like half the time my DRK 1-2-3 combo just sometimes doesn't trigger the following ability for use. Same for the 1-2 "Unleash -> Stalwart Soul" duo. Not sure if the preceding attack simply isn't connecting, or I'm overlooking some aspect of what needs to be done to trigger the following action in the combo.

Also, phew, three zones at maximum Fate now. Three more to go.

It's lag, unless you're fighting something of a higher level than your own, at which point you could be actually missing.

Ngl, I didn't even know until right now that your accuracy is lowered if you're fighting higher level monsters. Don't think I've ever noticed that.

In any event, I was doing Fates in the first zone with a Lv91 DRK, but I wasn't paying attention to the enemy levels. They might be a couple higher than me.

Almost there!

I got three more 100s (whm, mch, fsh) over the past weekend and ran through the normal raids. The raids were definitely fun fights, lots of mechanics. Pct has taken mch's spot on Frontlines roulette (at least to 90); wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much and the LB is such good point control. Also threw together a glam for it I really like until I get 100 and can do a full one. Viper got 90 and has now taken the trust spot from whm. Gnb takes the vacated roulette spots. Blm is 99 and should finish next.

Also knuckled down and made the 94 crafter and gatherer gear to get them some extra exp. Turns out half of that was a waste because the Indagator gear with materia was better for most spots... Ah well, maybe I can sell the ones I don't use.

Today's 6 FATEs will finish my second zone: Yak'tel. I'll have to run some gold quests to get sch to 97; I want to do Heritage Found next.
