Eh. Maybe I just haven't seen the problem spoiler moderations myself then. I can definitely say at least that it's very clearly defined and easy to understand the rule, unlike some of the others that can be pretty vague and/or arbitrary.

This isn't a court. Previous rulings and moderator statements don't count or matter, and neither do the actual written site rules. What matters is how the mod that sees your post feels.

He's in a lot more than 9 episodes, the saiyan saga is like 30+ episodes

Nappa first appears in episode 5 of the original anime. Then he appears in episode 11 "The Terror of Arlia." He arrives on earth in episode 22 and exits in episode 29. Not counting the quick shots of his and Vegeta's pods flying through space as the narrator countsdown, 9 episodes is spot on. Most of the Saiyan Saga after Raditz is build up to Nappa and Vegeta arriving on earth.

Edit. In Kai, it's 7 episodes.

I'd straight up stop coming here. The amount of games, movies, books and tv shows you'd be getting casually spoiled would be insane, not to mention the trolls would be making topics specifically to do it about everything from over a decade ago.

I mean just look at any time someone makes a watchthrough topic for anything, people can't help themselves and start discussing the massive spoilers from later in the show, though thankfully as it stands they have to cover those spoilers.

One of the most annoying things I had to deal with for the longest time was the innocuousness of the Xenoblade fandom, and their obsession that any party member joining after the first few hours was a spoiler.

I could at least understand why Fiora would be considered a spoiler, since her death was faked in the first hour of the game, and she only rejoins the party about midway though the game (even though it's revealed she's alive waaay before that).

But Zeke, and even Morag, in XBC2 were the dumbest fucking hills to die on. You fight Morag as a boss once early on in the game before she joins you, and Zeke is literally on the back of the box in a screen shot as being in the player's party, yet people would still mark you for talking about them without a spoiler tag, or not calling them by the number in which they join your party.

It's like the Xenoblade fan base was having their first experience of having additional party members join your team later on in a JRPG or something.

It was as bad as the god awful Free Company in XIV I was in for a awhile who had a rule that you couldn't call any dungeons or trials by their name if you were asking for help, and only by the level requirement, because "spoilers".

As I said I feel it should be fine in a topic that's about said thing and said thing is old.

If the topic is say about how do I do x thing in x game I could see that being a problem cause that would mean the TC hasn't even finished the game

If it was posted in an unrelated forum or thread, I could understand removing it.

I do think the age and pop-culture footprint of the spoiler should be taken into consideration.

To use Star Wars as an example... the nature of Darth Vader is pretty well known even among non-fans. On a Star Wars forum, when discussing the prequels or even sequels, it would be difficult to do so without mentioning his... lineage. Every thread would wade into spoilers very fast. Might as well label the whole forum as spoilers and be done with it.

Lucasfilm themselves haven't considered that a spoiler on decades, as they've repeatedly used Vader's lineage in promotional material.

Sticking with Star Wars though... if someone on that same forum dropped a spoiler from Ashoka, that should be dealt with because it's a new(ish) show. It can be reasonably assumed not everyone there has seen it yet.

I think that should be less about the age of the spoiler and more about the intent. If someone asks a question about a game and forgets to tag a spoiler that could probably be expected from the question, NKL them. If someone is being reckless about spoilers, warning. If they're deliberately spoiling things, no matter how old, ban the fuck out of them.

i mean its weird because the topic was older.

The mod called it a major plot point and a plot twist, which it is neither.

and its arguable that its a spoiler in the first place because its in promotional material.

if the rule is every unmarked story beat spoilers then thats the rule, but that seems way different than the intent

I'll chime in and say that, in a closed community like this board, and considering how old most people here are, and that in all likelihood everyone has seen all of DBZ by now, and anyone who hasn't probably won't watch it, the moderation was unjustified. You've got to know your audience/community by this point.

However, in a more open community, spoilers should always be considered. Just over the past few weeks, I've seen clips of a Vtuber playing through one of the DBZ games and she has never seen DBZ before so everything was surprising to her. She had no idea what to expect from any of the encounters, and it's terrible to try robbing someone of their first experience in anything they show interest in unless they specifically say it's okay to do.

That's the reason it's inconsistent, because people jump through hoops to say things are spoilers. Which in turn makes it confusing what's spoilers.

Ie, saying someone is a party member shouldn't be a spoiler unless there's something important about it. Like... Using ff7 as an example. It shouldn't be spoilers that Yuffie joins your party, because she's in the promotional material, and even if she wasn't, the manual mentions her, and even if THAT wasn't a thing, her joining doesn't provide any real spoilers to the story because of the role she has in the plot. Her joining doesn't spoiler the plot, and it doesn't lean towards anything in particular.

But if idk, there was something like "Sephiroth joins your party to have one final stand versus Rufus on the top of shinra" was a plot point, then that would be something that needs to be a spoiler, because it dictates something about how the plot is going to go. You would know that ultimately cloud is going to work with Sephiroth, and the bigger enemy is Rufus in the end of the day, which could lead to you guessing other plot points and ruin the journey itself.

The issue is that sometimes people are so strict that it becomes nonsensical. Is saying that you can summon Bahamut a spoiler?

No, it makes sense. Primarily because mods remove the actual post in question. That's fine. What's not fine is that too many and you could find yourself warned etc. Under normal circumstances? I'd say "makes sense." But that lack of consistency is the problem.

I've seen spoiler tags, but I also seen all of the stuff people mentioned here outside of those tags, but I guess in those cases no one reported it.

I personally don't understand the big deal about spoilers anyways. Like I understand how someone could be trolling and putting spoilers for something new in a topic title. But why enter a topic discussing a movie or game if you don't want spoilers
