He was a great comedian but not anymore. Current Chapelle's stand-up "comedy" is just sad. The guy Rowling'd himself.

I haven't haven't viewed the specials. So ill have to take your word on it in terms of if he's playing a character of being genuine.

As for his audience, yeah some of his audience probably did enjoy it for the wrong reasons and I think he was always aware of that but just didn't care... from his perspective if he can extract money from racists by telling them something they already believe whilst making fun of them, that's a victory over the racists.

No, he isnt playing a character and thats not even something up for debate or interpretation. It is not ambiguous. This has been thoroughly established through multiple specials, public speaking, and statements made.

Its not something you need to take anyones word about. These are facts which have been established for years.

I know humor is extremely subjective, but I never thought Chappelle was funny, even before I knew he was a reactionary cuck.

Are people really trying to make the new spin "If you don't laugh at his transphobic 'jokes', then you're a racist"?

I don't know whether I should call it funny or sad that they're that desperate to hate trans people.

I don't know if people are trying to say that, as much as they're saying "Why were his racist jokes funny, but his trans jokes (at least the ones before his last 2 specials, where it was more him preaching than telling jokes) weren't?"

Ive said this before when one of his specials came out but I thought the one joke he told years ago where he said one they/them, or many they/them, (coming after him) was funny.

Yeah, admittedly that's why I have him last. I'm more of a fan of his podcast where his stories and unique similies are his bread and butter. If we're going by pure stand-up then I guess I'll swap him out for Louis CK.

Classic Chapelle is some great stuff. Now he's just too absorbed with trans people and yapping about being cancelled.

So if conservatives were the sole subject of his jokes, would his defenders still support him I wonder?

He could have prevented himself from becoming a villain if he would have not latched onto the anti-trans hate train so many celebrities board the first time they get pushback for insensitive statements towards the community they refuse to ponder on or reflect introspectively. Instead of wondering if they said something fucked up, they go full-force into Skinner "no, it's everybody else who's the problem" mode.

I still remember when he defended Kevin Hart because of a comment he was being assailed over he griped that people were coming after the black community and tried framing it as black people vs trans people, a statement that invalidates all black transfolk. He literally made it into an us vs them and from there he just became increasingly bitter and spiteful.

That's a big difference a lot of the people with the "gotcha's" about him punching down on poor black drug addicts are missing. When Chappelle did those jokes or skits he wasn't being hateful about it, yes he was using them as joke material, however it didn't seem malicious. We know that he's malicious towards the trans community and those who give him grief over it because he's made it a major ranting point. It's clearly something that bothers him on a personal level, whereas if the former subject material bothered him it's because he wanted to bring attention to the issue in hopes for change, or at the most cynical just for money.

Remember when Dave quit comedy because his jokes were being used for hate?
