A ten-year-old boy took his own life after suffering horrific bullying at school, with his family saying he had warned officials 20 times about the ongoing abuse. Sammy Teusch, from Greenfield, Indiana, died by suicide on May 5 and according to his family, was being bullied up until the night he passed away. His parents Sam and Nichole say he was both physically and emotionally bullied at school, with Sammy being recently beaten up on a school bus. The bullying started last year when he was in elementary school, and followed him to Greenfield Intermediate School. According to the family, Sammy told teachers and other staff about the bullying 20 times.

His father Sam told WTHR: 'They were making fun of him for his glasses in the beginning, then on to make fun of his teeth. It went on for a long time.' 'I held him in my arms. I did the thing no father should ever have to do, and anytime I close my eyes, it's all I can see. The abuse then got physical, Sam added: 'He was beat up on the school bus, and the kids broke his glasses and everything. 'I called the school, and I'm like, 'What are you doing about this? It keeps getting worse, and worse, and worse. And it's not getting any better. In fact, it's getting worse.' Speaking to 21alive, his grandmother Cynthia said: 'They cant just say they have zero tolerance because that doesnt mean there is zero tolerance about bullies. 'Their zero tolerance means that they dont have responsibility for it. People trust their kids to the school, but now that trust is breaking down.' Dr. Harold Olin was approached by the outlet for an interview and said he was unavailable, but claimed no bullying report had ever been submitted by the family. Olin added that administrators at the school had conversations with the family throughout the year but wouldn't share the content of these conversations.

So fucking sad. How does a 10 year old even think about things like this?? Why didn't the school system do more? Why didn't the parents do more if they knew he complained almost two dozen times bit there was no reaction? If that happened to my kid and the school didn't do anything about it I'd file a lawsuit and get my kid into a different school.

On that note, the parents of the bullies - what would they even say or do in that situation? Unreal.

Zero tolerance bullying policies have been complete horse shit since their inception. Absolute shame what happened to this kid.

The school system sucks. If that kid was the one that struck back he'd be the one in trouble and not the monsters that were tormenting him. It really boggles the mind.

when I worked at a school, there were staff meetings every single week to talk about stuff like this that is happening in the school. there's no fucking way that school didn't know
those parents should go after the school and the parents of the bullies, because they are also responsible for not raising their children right.

public schooling does not much more than get kids introduced to gang-culture & general societal peer-pressure, all while providing a comfy EZ job w/ benefits for types such as passive con-men, child-predators, and the lazy uneducated wives of athletic coaches finally doing something w/ that college-education degree their parents paid for

The bullies that drove to him to this need to rot in juvie until they're 18. Kids who do this need to forfeit their childhoods.

It's a shame how common bullying still is in schools. And parents without other schooling alternatives feel forced into sending their kids into bad situations.

Schools never do anything about bullying. As someone who was bullied throughout middle school, no one ever helped me.

....But there was one day I was getting dismissed from school and my bully was behind me giving me flat tires. My mother saw him in the hallway doing it. When we got up to her, she walked right beside him (and this was during class change so the halls were busy) and very audibly, she walked beside him saying "Ohhhhhhh, is this that cute little Johnny? Awww, what an adorable little boy you are!" and other things like that that turned his ass red.

I will never forget that. Funny enough, next year we went to the same trade school and went into the same shop together. He was never an asshole to me there. At all really. >_>

As a parent I worry a lot about bullying. My son is just a toddler but Im already thinking about how I should handle it. Im considering just banning social media usage for a while.

Nah, we're playing on Sudden Death nowadays, riling them up into a purg is helpful.

After a certain point, the school should be liable. At the 3rd time of this happening I wouldve raised all hell for my kid. Shame the school online, visit the bullies parents or just taken my kid out of there!

i just have strong memories of local teachers striking & picketing @ downtown areas, exploiting sympathy they were getting at the time due to national attention at the time surrounding the states teachers not being paid high enough, despite ALL their husbands being the coaches/principals/teachers/directors of which helped cover up the rape of several students + performed blatant witness-intimidation & publicly outing the victims to humiliate them once the golden-boy under trial got 300+ in prison for his crimes which resulted in several suicides (+ possible covered-up retaliation murder) , not to mention how much embezzling theyd do with all the grants & funding they were provided with via exploitation of minorities, thus depriving the average non-legacy students of opportunities as to keep an already impoverished area held down as much as possible

but go ahead and try to act like Im some immoral POS for disrespecting the country-club atmosphere of MOST public schools these days

Attracting higher quality personnel with increased salaries, and spending more on training and facilities, actually would help substantially with the problem of bullying.

Schools need more security. Security permitted to put their hands on bullies and restrain them until they learn who's boss. My middle school experience would have worked better had the bullies been checked against the wall painfully.

I have no idea how, but in middle school the shop teacher broke up a fight and ended up holding one girl back by the empty arms of her sweatshirt while she did a "raging in a straightjacket" routine.

all im saying is that this overall sense of general power they possess shouldnt be respected more than any other job these days. the fact that they can deflect controversy & possible charges like a librarian-edition of blue lives matter, and it goes unchecked because of a few positively influential teachers out there where generally public-schools are a mixed bag & the less political-style protection or immunity they have the better
