Since it was so long ago can't say 100%, but was such a cheap bastard then I was certainly reading/researching before I made that purchase. Wouldn't be surprised if they misled people by making it harder than it now is to see what you're getting.

ive never heard of lifetime being used in that way. in the most generous interpretation, that would mean a perpetual license for version 10, whenever version 11 comes out you dont get that but can keep using version 10 forever at no cost. despite that reddit comment the false advertisement is still a crime

I wouldn't trust a company that pulls this stuff. Switch over to Proton, way better services and a subscription gets you a lot.

this is why a lot of major software vendors will have two parts to their licensing. The perpetual for the licenses and then the support / maintenance contract that enables you to have all the updates.

The standard rate of $9.99 for Proton gives you more than just VPN though. You also get email, calendar, cloud storage, password manager, email alias creator and manager and brrach detection. All of which is encrypted and accessible from your phone, tablet, computer, whatever.

The email alias feature is great. Mozilla offers something similar (though you have to pay for more than 5). The idea is that if one account is breached, they just get a bum email address that you just discard and generate a new one.

And they have historically given extra perks to subscribers over the years. As an early adopter I got extra storage space, more simultaneous VPN connections than I'll ever need, etc.

It's great you got this sorted out TC.

Proton is a good alternative. My alternative of choice is Mullvad. 5 a month. No sales, but completely transparent

Heh. Well at the very least it seems they certainly arent being proactive in reminding people they need to contact support to extend their lifetime subscription.

Even if they did remember they arent going shout it from the roof tops and still try and get people to sign up again. As was your case OP. Good for you for getting them to extend it though.
