To Valhalla! Vinland Saga has been on my list for awhile. Binged season 1 pretty fast, great show. Season 1 ended on a great note. Brutal show, exactly how I like it. No powers, just savage viking warfare. Though some of them were definitely superhuman in strength. *Thorkell smiles* Askeladd was a real bastard, and I loved it. Season 2 is definitely on the list.

Out of curiosity: Did you watch Vinland Saga subbed, with the Netflix dub, or with the Crunchyroll/Sentai dub? Yes, it somehow ended up with 2 different dubs due to some funky licensing. I've heard both are good in their own ways though.

Subbed. I watched the first episode dubbed with a friend of mine, don't remember which version, but I remember thinking the voices were too quiet compared to the rest of the audio and I ain't dealing with that.

the re:birth games are solid overall tho for what it's worth re:birth 1 like the original 1 isn't connected to 2 or 3 since they apparently decided to do a reboot after 1

V2 is good too but i can't comment on the blanc or noire games along w/ 4 goddesses online and sisters VS sisters as i haven't gotten around to them yet

Looking at my psnprofiles, it looks like I've played 10 Nep games. The mainline games are fun with Megadimension being the best (minus the godawful Blanc chapter). The spinoffs are very hit or miss, I often played for the characters and world alone. Of course, the number of spin offs vastly outnumber the main games.

The two new series that I'm most hyped for are the two magical girl anime, Acro Trip and Magilumiere. Acro Trip has a setup fairly similar to Gushing Over Magical Girls (main character who's a fan of magical girls ends up joining the villains) but with more effort put into the story and far less reliance on cheap fanservice, while Magilumiere basically turns the magical girl genre into a workplace slice-of-life. It's just nice to see more magical girl anime that aren't either super kid-friendly like Precure or hopeless gore porn like the wave of Madoka rip-offs we've seen since Madoka came out. There's plenty of room between the two extremes, but magical girl anime aiming for that middle ground have become rarer to see.

Is Natsume's Book of Friends good? What's it like? The show apparently started back in 2008, but I had never heard heard of it until Crunchyroll randomly started dubbing it in 2022, 14 years after it premiered.

It's mainly a comfy and laid back/sappy episodic show, with very light overarching plot. Youkai of the week kind of setup, where Natsume has to deal with whatever issue it is they bother him with, but plenty of permanent characters too that are all mostly likeable.

There's never really any serious stakes and completely devoid of any fanservice so a lot of people probably find it boring, but I enjoy it as it's very consistent at being good at what it does, and for all the Japanese folklore it deals with.

I might pick up Dandadan when it's over for the season.

Other than that, idk. Besides Thunderbolt Fantasy. It is required of me.

Hmmmm... that sounds like something that I might enjoy, but not something that I would binge, especially considering how long it is. If I did watch it, I'd probably only watch it 1 season at a time, with other shows in between the seasons. If they announce dubs for season 6 and the upcoming season 7, then I might consider it. It's much easier for me to watch longer shows like this dubbed.

I was having trouble trying to decide what backlog show to watch next, but I just got some good news that makes my decision a lot easier. In addition to gore-checking the most recent arc of Demon Slayer for me, my brother was also watching two shows that he knew I was interested in, and he decided to gore-check those for me too. So now I have both Frieren and Helck lined up, and I'll just flip a coin to decide which one I watch first.
