Singers are just people who became popular under the right circumstances (music competition), or whose parents were rich enough to catapult them into stardom.

Or politicians are just people that rose to power due to one's own network/connections.

Social media influencers just have a lot of charisma and know how to market themselves.

But -- they just do some things slightly better than others. That's no reason to idolize them for it. Why not focus on your own set of skills, instead of dwelling on someone else's?

--
Celebrities of the examples above could be Faker (is he still relevant in LoL?), Hirohiko Araki (manga author), John Tavares (Toronto Maple Leafs).

Some fans take inspiration from celebrities, feeling connections to them and their work, that helps bring them out of depression. So many times have I heard someone say that a musician's songs have given them reasons to continue living. Some youtubers have helped me through my darkest times with their comedy.

Some fans are blinded by the popularity, while others have legitimate reasons to look up to celebrities. Everyone is different.

For 1 of my old hobbies I would have been star struck meeting him when I was a teenager. I was super obsessed with the hobby tho and was all I could think about for a few years lol. I thought he had a level of skill that was very obtainable as long as I kept practicing. I never got close to it though in the end. I injured my body too much and called quits.

Nowdays I'd probably just mention I know him because of so and so video. Wouldn't really ask for an autograph or picture. He isn't famous at all!!!!! Even within the sphere of the hobby he had a relatively small fan base tbh. Got outshined by flashier dudes

Part of it is respecting the talent and ability, I only really admire celebs who are typically behind the scenes making content. I don't think a ton of people though really would go insane if they ran into some big celeb, barring the true obsessives.

There also is vast differences of levels of how someone would treat a celeb even one they like, I am a huge Martin Scorcese fan because of his incredible movies but if I ran into most actors I would just be like sure fine.

Another factor is how much you care about the thing they make, if you for instance never care much about TV shows then sure you won't give a shit about meeting most tv actors or director/creators. Similar thing here some that love JRPG's might flip out about meeting some huge iconic JRPG figure but might not care about running into someone far more famous to the general public.

I appreciate them as entertainers for sure, and Id definitely be star struck if I met one I was a fan of in person (wouldnt harass them or anything. If nothing else, Id want to let them know how much I enjoy and appreciate their work) but it always struck me as odd how people get so invested in their personal lives.

I have seen a few myself and have not come up to them when I felt it would be an inconvenience. What's funny is I spent a bit of time in Malibu and you actually pass them in cars quite often, a guy I knew from that area had Denzel Washington work out at a gym he went to often.

You see them so often in areas around there that they become far less of a big deal to those that have lived in LA for a long time.

The biggest celebrities to ever even possibly get me 'starstruck' would be Hitoshi Matsumoto and Hamada Masatoshi.

The thing is, I don't think I would get crazy like I see others get. I would be absolutely happy though. They've helped build me into the person I am today when it comes to my appreciation of comedy.

I'll never get it either. Especially in this age of "celebrity influencer" kinda shit. Never really thought special of anyone I've seen on TV or movies or whatever.

Yeah, I don't get it either. It might be cool to see a famous person, but I wouldn't really care that much. I don't understand idolizing people.

If it's in regards to me, I actually don't watch TV or movies much either if that helps. Or even stuff on YouTube these days, now that I think of it. That isn't to say they shouldn't take pride in what they do, but I just never saw the appeal and personally don't see the need to bother myself with the achievements of people I couldn't care less about, or why I should be in awe of them.

Celeb idolization was never in my blood. Even at a young age.
Especially now as the depravity of Hollywood becomes more and more exposed.
Also so called "social media celebrities"
