If they're handling major amounts of money (like way beyond cashier levels) I can see an argument for it. Otherwise nope.

Seems unnecessary. They could be getting the job to fix their credit problem.

Exactly. Except those millionaire owners who make the rules think being poor and/or having a low credit score means you're a thief.

I mean they (the "job creators") rob and steal, so they just assume everyone else does too.

Depends. I don't think it's reasonable unless they are involved in finances in some way (payroll->banker->accountant etc.), and there's absolutely no way every job needs it. You don't need to credit check your cashiers or your manufacturing plant workers.

They dont affect your credit score in most countries.

Its not so much that Id object somebody doing it to me as I just dont see what the point of it is. It doesnt tell you anything useful.

Ive had it several times. I also have to get regular police checks, drug tests, physicals and stuff.

Its annoying but the salary makes it worth it.

It should be illegal to do so. However on a similar note, I dont disagree with checking criminal history and making a decision based on that

It's not that, but when you're low enough and someone offers a magical cure to your problems, sometimes it's hard to see downsides that are pretty obvious in retrospect. Talking from experience.

...what good would that do?

There are some jobs where them taking bribes stealing or doing illegal activities in the side could be a proble.problem..

Security is the onlybline of work I've personally known to do it. Guess cause something like hey man 100 bucks and ya never saw me Allright? Where ad oddly the prison doesn't and what they get paid to be dirty is much higher. Like I was offered 1700 a month steady and that woulda been on top of what I was getting paid legally by thr state. If I didn't have intercity my bank account would likely still be loaded even though I went 2 months without work

I think it should be only a thing if the crime in question is recent or a long history of it AND the crime in question could be problematic for the job. Like larceny or embezzlement yeah don't put them in control of money.

Credit history is kind of personal and there can be a lot of reasons why people have bad credit. But you have to give the employer consent before they can check it, so that would remove any illegality.

No they didn't but I know my mom has had to do it for security jobs. I'm sure the prison would these days if it wasn't hard enough getting/keeping staff as it is.

Also used to work at a prison juvenile detention center now.

Yeah. My mom worked like federal government and corporate head quarters level stuff she wasn't doing mall cop shit.

Like someone here mentioned security clearance she had to have one for several of her jobs because she worked on government facilities with confidential information
