Guard Scorpion in the original FF7 because the bad translation tells you to do the opposite of the mechanic.

Granted this only kicks your ass on the first run before you know the game's just teaching you wrong.

I remember the first real boss you fight in Tales of Arise to be tough as hell. I barely survived. I started over with the game on PS5 so I'll see if he is as difficult as I thought.

Fugue from Eternal Sonata. Hes technically the second boss you fight and its an unwinnable fight but that didnt stop me from over grinding and trying..still got my ass whooped.

That one fuckin' guy from Wu Long.

For months, basically the entire review section was people who got their shit kicked in by that guy.

Mega Man Network Transmission (If I'm remembering right the first boss in this Gamecube game was incredibly difficult for a first boss. Fire based? I feel like that is the only part of the game I remember lol)

The second part of the trials game on hard difficulty. It was among the hardest part of the chapters as you don't get access to the system yet.

Blood Raven in D2/LoD is stupid hard and I'll die on the hill that her Normal and Hell fights are the hardest in the game. Just a straight up break check

There are 2 that immediately come to mind. Grafted Scion in Elden Ring, and Zhang Liang from Wo Long. Zhang Liang kicked my ass at least 50 times before I learned the counter system in that game. The sad part is he is more difficult than the next 4 bosses combined.

On the flip side of this, if you fight Tutorial Genichiro enough that you can actually beat him, you get a modified cutscene, and the hes a joke every time you fight him when you actually have tools to work with.

Aztec Falcon from Mega Man Zero 1 is ridiculously hard for being an extremely early boss. It's like that boss is meant to give you a warning of how hard the MMZ games are.

Only thing that comes to mind is Gades in Lufia: the Legend Returns, you're expected to lose but if you beat him you get a bracelet.

Shimano in Yakuza Kiwami if you upgraded wrong

Triangle Strategy Mission 1 on NG+ or NG++

Gattuso in Tales of Vesperia. Not the very first boss you fight, but he's the first boss after you leave town and he's notoriously hard.

Definitely Grilgan from Lost Odyssey. On subsequent playthroughs I always over leveled a bit. Shit now I wanna play it.

Even on Hard, thats only hard if youre doing a deathless run. Since there are no consequences whatsoever for people dying, the games really easy if you dont care about that. But if youre doing Hard deathless, that game is goddamn hard.

Tenchu 1. The 1st mid level boss could wreck you easily.

Similar issue in SMT4, with it almost being a coinflip since getting Walter as an AI partner means you're nearly always on the back foot.

I recently tried NMH3, the first boss in that game is brutal, before I figured out how to deal with him, and even then it wasn't easy.
