Worse than Secret of the Stars

is that the one on DS?

It's not a remake? I almost bought it back in the day just seeing on the shelf, but I figured it was a remake.

Was that Dragon Song? That game had some bizarre mechanics. Running drains your hp outside of combat. That's one of the dumbest ideas I ever heard implemented.

It's a shame they never made another Lunar game after Eternal Blue Complete.

Yeah for Dragon Song it got its three strikes awfully quick.

1. "Hi, I'm Generic Protag. This is my oldest friend, Love Interest, but I don't have a crush on her...MAYBE!!"

2. Running drains your HP.

3. Experience AND Gold? Hahaha, no, pick which one you want to get.

Okay, fuck you, goodbye forever, blight on a once-beautiful franchise.

Dragon Song was a truly bizarre game. Lunar 1 abd 2 didn't really break new gameplay ground but they were fun and charming; it was a workable formula. But time after time baffling gameplay decisions made Dragon Song a frustrating experience unworthy of the name.. Only being able to target enemy groups, having to choose between xp or item drops making gridning worse..etc..If they had just done a by the numbers game it would have been better even.

Its depressing how low most of those sales numbers are. Just over a million for all those different versions on all those different platforms. I know its just Japan sales but its still a bummer.

I still remember buying Lunar Silver Star Story Complete on PS1 in May of 99. I had just gotten out of the Navy that month and came home. Went to the game store just browsing games on the shelf and this caught my eye. Bought it.

I still remember the nice book that came with it and the cloth map. Ended up loving the game. Played the hell out of it that first month while waiting to start my new job.

Its crazy that PS1 version only sold 44,000 in Japan. Damn thats low.

It's 10 games to get up to current. It's not like it's that big of a deal.

You can also just start at CS3 if you want since that game starts after a timeskip

I'm sorry, but 10 JRPGs--games that can run 30-70 hours long each--is too much of a time investment. Waaaaaaaaay too much time to invest in a series.

I might give it a shot if they start a new story, but I am not touching the current one.

Paladin's Quest is fun. Weird setting. Almost feels like the sort of RPG maker games people do now. Really strange color pallet too.

Drakkhen has good music. the whole soundtrack. Play Dragon View instead for gameplay.

I will say Drakkhen does have some great mood setting music. Certainly not fun to play or figure out though on a SNES.
Also good description of what Paladin's Quest could feel like today. It's a very alien feeling world heh those lollipop trees lmao

Lunar Magic School

Also I actually liked Beyond the Beyond, and Tecmo Secret of the Stars, I mean they arent great, but I still liked them. I never played Dragon song, but it sounds terrible.

Secret of the Stars isn't that bad. It just happened to exist on a system with shit like FF4/6 Chrono Trigger, Lufia 2, BOF1/2, and some Japanese exclusive shit like DQ5, FF5 and Lennus 2

Had it released on the Genesis it might have done better. The only real competition on that system was Phantasy Star 4

I have a trouble with trails because my ocd makes me want to get full marks on every side quest to get top ranks,so i get the good endings, and then I end up resorting to a guide which isn't fun.

It would be one thing if you could go back and do things but so many quests have limited periods to do them and only one chance to get full points.

All the trails games have only one ending with some minor variations starting in Zero based on friendship meters.

The only exception is CS4 but afaik it's not possible to miss the extra thing you need to do to get the good ending. You might have to do a bit of obnoxious back tracking but it's available any time just before the final ponr.

There's a few instances where people will acknowledge your achievements in other games like the various fishing guilds, and some quests that have a second part in another game, though I believe they stopped doing things like that starting with Cold Steel.

In CS3 onward they made it real easy. All quests are marked on the map and any NPC you haven't spoken to yet is also marked. If you clear every map of icons you'll find everything you need. For missions with different grades you can just save scum. The games have ways of telling you that you fucked up. Probably easier to just get a guide to look up the quests that have wrong options though.
