The fact that most TCG made now mostly take blue prints from MTG then Yugioh (except for Battle Spirit Saga...that is also not taking off) says a lot about the design of the Yugioh TCG. In fact, I'll argue, the game being as fast pace as it is now was the only direction Yugioh could've taken or else it would've absolutely died off. OG Yugioh was about getting the best monsters with the best stats to overpower your opponent while summoning monsters one and a time, which is very slow for a card game. At least Modern Yugioh does something different from any other TCG in the market and just skips all the way to the end game, effectively having end games monsters duking it out...like a Kaiju battle and just hoping your opponent doesn't have a "hand trap" to stop you from doing your "combos".
